Hey Sinfan75...I was just wondering how come you put Ballinger in your top 20. Your are the only person who has even mentioned Ballinger as a top 20 candidate. BC did put them in the region I top 10 but that is about it. I am just curious. Did you base it on tradition, returning starters or a gut feeling. I am not knocking your selection, I am a Ballinger fan. I just thought that it was curious that someone from outside West Texas would put Ballinger that high.

Good to see Port Isabel in one of the list, "sinfan75" seems you know this area better than most of the posters- being it's only a couple hours away from your coast. Any one who is familiar with Port Isabel football knows its a good idea to keep taps on PI, as it's tradition is way well on it's way back. In addition to the good size & great speed, it will be an emotional season as well. They will play with alot of heart, even more this season, as they have dedicated to their season to the long, long time defense coach Coach "V" Villarreal who passed away in May, who started the "Seawall Defense". I hear Coach Staumbaugh has brought in new def. coach to fill in the postion, Wade Burchin who comes from Smithville, anyone know what kind of defense he has?

The "Beast from the East" is back and will have it's feast! (In the RGV it's on the east side of the Rio Grande Valley - next to the beach)

hopefully yall wont be as bad as smithville cause they are horrible 1-9 this last year. defense i think they run a 4-3 might be wrong though

Thanks for the info. though it doesn't sound good, hopefully that record is not a reflection of this coach, but the players. As these group of kids are real hard workers as said by coach Staumbaugh himself. Coach "V" ran a 4-3 defense so at least they don't have to learn a new defense. But, I seriously doubt that they could have a season like that. I don't recall them ever having gone with such a bad season or a loosing season for that matter. I think they might have gone under 500 back in the 50s or 60's but not in recent history. Again, thanks for the insight, is Smithville in your district?

last year they were, both years they went 0-10 1-9. i think it might of been lack of players thier, alot of fail outs

Yep,Ballinger got a lot starters back and they had a 9-2 record,I think that would account for somethin! As far as Port Isabel they always have a strong program and I think they're on the back up.I believe if Mathis and P-I meet it would P-I.

Bellville dude thats for saying we are good lol no see if u have only about 300 kids in ur school and ur playing schools with about 700-800 who do u think is going to win and being a player for coach burchum lol its a good thang he is going to be ur defence not offence cuz our defence yea we wont the best but when u have a coach calling 44dive on 3rd and 10 to go whats that so yea ur defences is going to be tired if they play 40mins of a football game believe me i know but yea we may have sucked but hey i think we are going to do good this year

and i dont know what u ppl are thinking about cuz Elgin lol is going to be ready this year watch they'll beat most the teams u didnt think they wont beat(bellville)

Come on Sinfan75, nobody's gonna buy Sinton THAT low! I don't think we're gonna be able to hide this year. But, thanks for the effort.

Just thought i'd tell you. There's a chance that P.I. in a couple of years, might have a new "Coach V." His son Gabe will be finishing his Masters degree and wants to coach in P.I., plus, he knows his dad's system very well.

The SeaWall will rise again......

TFINT, what I have just read about Gabe coaching in PI well, really just coaching just hearing that makes very glad for him. As I wondered if Gabe would follow in his father's footsteps. I have heard he has grown up to be a fine young man. And not at what at times I would remember him to be a little spoiled on the field (don't know how he was off the field). I know that part of that attitude was due to his passion for the game as it was well displayed in his play as I am sure that being Coach "V" son wasn't easy either.

I remember how his senior year being the starting QB for the 1st time in Varsity, how well he did considering he hadn't started as QB. He was a “defensive” guy, I was awed at how he would transform himself from playing QB then next play he could be that hard hitting linebacker, each complementing the other. But, I agree with you that this is something very positive for PI football as Gabe grew up with football and knows his father's defense very well in addition, I am sure he has his own style of coaching. I am glad to hear that he plans to go back to his old school and make a difference there, no disrespect to the new def. coach of course. I understand he played college ball, I always wondered if he had continued because I only heard about him his freshman year at Trinity college after that I didn’t hear anything in the papers or such. Anyhow thanks for the info. TFINT, and have fun while back in PI!

I dont exactly have a top twenty but what i think is wrong with alot of these picks is that they dont include Kennedale.

i have seen a problem with these list has no one seen wilmer hutchins pay they have more size and speed than just bout anyteam posted. they are an all round great team who will not only out run you but beat the hell out of you too.

I agree...Wilmer-Hutchins is a definite top 20 team...they could have the best defense in the state...if they can find a consistent offense they could be a team to watch....

Very few votes for Borger and Muleshoe. Why? The Mules will have a shot at an undefeated season if they get past Amarillo Caprock and Brownfield.
