Does anybody know what the Texas record is for the longest field goal (in a game) by a high school kicker?

I don't know if this would count since it was at a private high school but Russell Cowsert kicked one 67 yards for Dallas Christian HS against Fort Worth Nolan in 1987.

For some reason I remember Russell Erxleben former UT kicker who had one in college of 67 had the high school record.

It looks like he's had some time lately sharing his accolades with his buddies. Russell's bio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Erxleben)

I know this isn't HS, but the kicker from ACU hit a 70 yarder back in God knows when (1970's I want to say) during a game. The Reporter-News did something about records in Abilene and it happens to be the longest field goal on record at any level since football began.

RMAC that was Ove Johansan and the kick was 69 yards against East Texas State in 1976. It is the longest kick ever in a game.

Our kicker kicked a 57 yarder last Friday - cleared it with a few extra yards to go. The wind was at his back but it was dead on in the center. We think it may be our school record - we are trying to find out for sure.

It could be DHS or it may tie it. I know Jeremy Brown kicked a 50 yarder against Sinton last year for 4A Gregory-Portland and if it had been ten yards back he would have made a 60 yarder that time.

Below is a link that has the records. In Texas High School if I am correct (and double check me please) but there are three players who have the record for 62 yard field goals while in high school.

Russell Wheatley of Odessa Permium vs Longview in 1975 at semis in State playoffs.

Ralph Heaton of El Paso Irvin vs El Paso Bowie in 1992

Davis Leaverton of Midland High vs Odessa Permium in 1995.

In Texas HS someone needs to kick one 63 yards or more to get the record if I am not mistaken.

Gainesville had a great kicker just a few seasons ago(Jon Lopez) who kicked a 56 yard field goal against Celina. I think he had at least one more that season over 50 yards. Also during a kickoff, he sailed the ball thru the uprights. (70 yards in the air)

The thing about the Wheatley kick for Odessa Permian was it won a play-off game over Longview. I think the final score was 10-9 or something like that

It's not the record, but I saw a kicker out of Bellville a year or two ago who kicked about a 55-yarder into 12 mph winds at Kyle Field. I've seen so many games since then it's become a blur, but I think they were playing Marlin. Anyone from Bellville with any help, fill me in.

russ, your right. It was Brandt Goeke who kicked a 55 yarder for Bellville vs. Marlin that night. That game was for the Region 3 championship. He was a pre-season All-American kicker for Blinn College this season.

Now that is funny.....:D

I doubt they have tried 62 field goals, much less kicked it that far.

I would guess that the longest one would be about 63 yards.
