Great info. I knew Greenwood has been putting together of string of playoff experiences. I didn't realize we would be in the top 13 as far as consecutive playoff experiences go.

Commerce is a surprise to me. Didn't they do real well in the late 90's or early 2000's. Since then, I don't hear a whole lot about them. Surely we have some Commerce posters here?

Take away the 2001 season from cuero and then see how long its been since cuero didn't make the playoffs! They'd be a little higher I think, just that season none of the senior boys would play for Littleton, its the truth. Think about nine or ten potential starters were either in offseason or hurt that season. O well, every team/town has there bad seasons every now and then, just wish it wasn't my senior year!

Commerce did very well from 1992 through 2001. In that ten year stretch, it had the best win-loss record in Texas High School Football and put together one winning streak of 29 games. It won 9 district championships (one a co-championship) and lost only two district games in those 10 years (to Royse City in 1998, for a co-championship and to Forney in 2001, when Commerce had to settle for a State championship to make up for not getting a district one). In that stretch, Commerce went three rounds deep four times, four rounds deep once, made the State championionship game four times and won it twice, in 1999 and 2001. It probably could also have won a shared championship in 1995, when it chose to go for two and a win, rather than to kick a PAT for a tie with Sealy. There was no overtime back then. If it had been any other game than the championship, Commerce would have kicked, because it had the penetration tiebreaker and would have advanced with a tie. But since there was no advancement possible, Commerce decided to either win the championship outright or take the loss, so it ended up losing 21-20.

Commerce was still pretty good (not close to great) in 2002, but has been only average the past three years. That's due to a dropoff in talent and coaching. (Not saying that the new coaches are bad, just that they're not yet at the level of the staff Lineweaver built.)

PS: I think that the four semi-finalists in 1995 had to be among the closest matched "final four" ever. Sealy beat Cuero 17-14 in their semi-final. Commerce and Springtown tied at 17-17, with Commerce advancing. Then Sealy beat Commerce 21-20 in the final, as I already said.
