the most exciting game I have ever seen was in 2001 Celina vs Garrision in 2A state finals. I believe Celina won 45-38. It was just scoring back and forth...both teams making big plays ALL night long! Simply amazing. Now obviously my personal favorite was the Wylie/Cuero game last year but as far as a blast to watch it doesn't hold a candle to Celina/Garrison. There are a few others I can't think of off hand so I will try and write about them after lunch...

Wylie Vs. Cuero- State Game 2004

Wylie wins it with a FG in the last seconds to get the title and keep it out of OT

it was the frist round this time...and we were up 21 goin to half graham came back in the second and score 21 unanswered to tie it up and first overtime...we get the ball first and missed a field goal attempt..graham gets the ball looks to be walkin in and somehow one of our players knocked the ball and a there was a fumble in the endzone...the corner on the same side as me(i was corner also) ran all the way over and somehow got on it before anyone else. Then the second overtime they were running an option if i remeber and the same guy who recovered the fumble (lance miller) latched onto the running back until assistance came and their 4rth down try was no good and we went on to win the game with a chad copeland score.

1984 3a quarterfinals. 14-0 daingerfield vs. 14-0 gladewater. gladewater scored twice in the final minutes of the game to tie the score at 27. daingerfield player then blocked extra point with seconds left in game to preserve a tie. d'field advanced on penetrations. greatest game i have ever witnessed.

but if you want a homer pick- the heart attack in nac.

I can't remember the year, but one the best playoff games I have seen was the Commerce/Sealy State Game..... maybe 97? Best ever I've witnessed would have to be Marble Falls vs Cuero in the Quarterfinals 1993

They are talking about it on another post. But one of 2 really good games in 3A that year (2002) was Sweetwater vs. Decatur (Sweetwater won 24-21) then lost to Greenwood the following week. Greenwood played in the other great game that year in the State Championship game, losing in Double Overtime. That was one of the best games I have ever been to.

i am also being a homer but when we played snyder in 02, defensive battle the whole game and they recovered a fumble on the 10 and scored early in the 4th, then we converted a 4th and 14 with 2 min left drove down and scored and kicked the extra point to win.......that was a great snyder team that year, just as good as any others, i believe they won district that year

Vernon vs Southlake Carrol 1992 at Pennington Field in Bedford. One of the greatest HS football games of the last 50 years. There were so many people at the game that they stopped letting people in and they were finding ways to watch the game from behind the walls. Sitting on top of buses was very popular that night. SLC won 38 - 35 with a very late game stop inside the 5. Dane Johnson was able to strip the football away from the Lions All-World tailback Dexter Butler with less that a minute to go to seal the win for the Dragons. What a game!

Rockdale advanced over a Marlin team that had previously defeated Rockdale in week 1. Was a great performance by the Tiger defense.

The game came down to a 3rd down TD catch by Charles Miles (I think) late in the 4th quarter.

Rockdale lost the next week to eventual State champion Newton.

Seems like yesterday........

LH vs PI was also good, but the classic of classics for me, was the Cuero vs PI in 1994, Cuero was #1 in the state and like #9 in country! And had thrashed PI 63-8 the year before. That was when the whole valley was there, and the stands at the formally Texas A&I stadium, had fans both on PI side and even on the Cuero side, full of people rooting on the Tarpons. And the memorable chant, "Whoop there it is" after Cuero did it to us first, thinking the they had already won the game. Then we emphatically did it back, at the end of the game when we won 20-20 with first an interceptions and then won by penetrations! That's still taked about in Tarponland and I have it on tape! :D

Yeah it was Charles Miles. 13-6 was the final score. And man does it ever seem like yesterday. In week 1 they beat us 20-7, but it could have been worse I think. I think they called the dogs off of us. We threw 5 interceptions. Started the season 1-2, and finished 10-3.

Absolutely, the Rice and Port Isabel game was remarkable. I was there, and that was the longest nail-biting game I have ever and probably ever will be at. I remember that Rice was down by eight and I think under a minute lft in the game and they haded the ball off to Charles Huffman for a 50+ yard run. Too bad they couldnt pull it off.

Cuero was #9 in the country at one point. Please tell me this is true. Thats crazy if it is, I've never heard of a 3a team making the national rankings.

Yes sir. Calallen comes back in the fourth to take a 21-20 lead. Then WO-S gets it, same play to the same guy like two or three straight times (I think... it's all fuzzy to me now) to win it in the final minute. I was on the sidelines at that one.

Others off the top of my head
1. The comeback, 1994 5A State Championship (rated by ESPN as the best game ever played)
2. Midland vs. Converse Judson, 2002 5A D-I State Championship
3. Refugio vs. Mart, 2000 2A Semis
4. Calallen vs. LaMarque, 1996 4A Semis
5. Aransas Pass vs. Port Isabel, 2002 3A D-II Area

Yep. Two short passes (outs, I think) to Jermaine Hope in a row got them a first down and a TD. On the second one, he just juked his man and outran the rest of the defense for about 50 yards.
