If we were the only team to beat Wylie this year I would be pretty happy too! Then again...Wylie can't REALLY "beat itself" so I guess I can't get that happy!

That's great to hear. Glad they have turned things around. Good Luck the rest of the season and hopefully into the playoffs.

Thanks Guys and Gals, it's much appreciated! :)

I know stats don't mean much, but just for fun here is a couple, that IMO, have helped turn the Tarpon team around, starting the 1st district game back in Sept. 30th, after a brutal schedule and start.

Team
RK School Games Total Average
Port Isabel - Port Isabel HS- 8 1908 238.5

Individual Rushing
RK Player, School, Class TC Yards Avg TD LG
Mark Villarreal, Port Isabel Port Isabel HS, Senior 122 915 7.5 7

TX HS Coaches Assoc. (http://pressbox.thsca.com/StandingsStats.asp?nav=Pressbox&menu=03)

side note: Not all teams are in there, so the rankings are not correct.

I like the fact, even without Marky Villarreal's 915 yards, the Tarpon offense still has 993 yards. Marky will hopfully get 1k this Friday, which is great, considering he didn't play all the games this season. And out of the 993, 545 came through the air, via Carr Grienier, that's shows a pretty good balance offense. Also, to take to consideration, all this after almost no offense, the 1st three games of the season, that brings up the average alot higher, than the 238 yards averaged, if you took at least two out of the equation, just food for thought.

Here is the schedule and results, thus far;
Opponent Date Time Result
Wk 0 @ Los Fresnos Los Fresnos HS (5A) (5-1, 4-0-0) Fri, Aug 26 Loss 6-52
Wk 1@ MONTEREY TECH HS (0-0-0, 1-0-0) Fri, Sep 2 Loss 0-51
Wk 2 Alamo PSJA Memorial HS(4A) (0-0-0, 4-0-0) Fri, Sep 16 Loss 39-7
Wk 3 @ Falfurrias Falfurrias HS (1-2-0, 1-0-0) Fri, Sep 23 Loss 14-28
Wk 4 Hidalgo Hidalgo HS (0-0-0, 4-1-0) Fri, Sep 30 Loss 34-24
Wk 5 @ Lyford Lyford HS (0-2-0, 0-0-0) Fri, Oct 7 Won 27-17
Wk 6 Raymondville Raymondville HS (0-2-0, 0-0-0) Fri, Oct 14 Won 19-48
Wk 7 @ La Feria La Feria HS (0-0-0, 0-0-0) Fri, Oct 21 Won 33-18
Wk 8 @ Rio Hondo Rio Hondo High School (6-1-0, 5-0-0) Fri, Oct 28 7:30 PM TBA *
Wk 9 Progreso Progreso HS (0-0-0, 0-0-0) Fri, Nov 4 7:30 PM TBA*

The comback I can see now, it's started in the 2nd half of week 3 and carried over into the 1st district game in week 4, against Hidalgo. The Tarpons were leading up until the 4th Qtr. when inexpeirence showed up. After that, they have won 3 straight and now have put themselves in a postion to get aleast a share of the District title, and a trip to the playoffs, with a win this Friday.

Just call us the Astros of HS football :D

Sorry, :o I haven't been able to get it to a fellow Tarpon Fan, to get them copied, but thanks for reminding me. I have the DVDs and all, I just need to get them into his hands, so he can copy them for me, since I don't have a DVD recorder.

IntocableCowboy, maybe we'll get to see a matchup between us this year. :D

I have just seen this very young Tarpon squad, grow every week, and improving every week! It's a great to see their hard work and tenacity payoff for them and Coach Stump, who is brilliant in my opinion. The offense is doing extremely well, just in the last two weeks they have averaged a little over 400 yards and Friday against the district top defense. The defense has also improved a lot, the secondary was the only consistant and solid, but now the run defense has come around and starting to look like the famed, Seawall defense of old.

TARPONS CONTINUE RESURGENCE

With their third straight win last Friday at La Feria, the Port Isabel Tarpons (3-5 overall, 3-1 in District 32-3A) advanced to this week’s showdown against Rio Hondo (7-1, 5-0).

The Tarpons and Bobcats collide at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Rio Hondo.

A win puts defending 32-3A champion PI in a good position to clinch a share of the district title, while a Rio Hondo win gives the Bobcats the outright 32-3A title.

"We’re playing a little better every week, and that’s our goal," PI coach Monty Stumbaugh said.

The Tarpons beat La Feria 33-18 and totaled 442 yards (250 rushing, 192 passing) for one of their best offensive showings of the season.

Led by Gustavo Alvarez and Esteban Delgadillo (six tackles each), the PI defense allowed the Lions only 184 yards.

"Our whole defense did well, especially our front four," Stumbaugh said. "I think La Feria only had two first downs going into the fourth quarter."

Concerning this week’s matchup, the PI coach said, "Rio Hondo likes to run the ball and control the clock. They do a good job of that. We’ll need to play great defense and find a way to move the football on them."

I love Austin, especially now that it's grass, plus my sis lives there. Sure, but not this year but maybe next year. ;)
