MJ...How long have you been following 3A ball? Wylie played for the championship against Gatesville back in 2000. They have consistently been a top 3a program over the last 10 to 15 years. They have had the same coach (Hugh Sandifer) since the mid-eighties. The team this year is good-sized up front but not huge. They don't have any bona-fide stars on offense but they play well as a team. They run out of multiple formations on offense. They like draw plays, traps up the middle, short 5-20 yard passes using roll outs and play action. They have a couple of hard running backs and a sophomore qb that will only get better as the years progress. He can throw high percentage passes well and can run if you lose outside containment. They will also throw in a little option and will give you misdirection or a trick play if you over-pursue. Their defense flows to the ball really well. They play solid technique. Again, their are no superstars, but they play good team ball. Wylie will try to play ball-control with long drives and they usually don't make too many mistakes. They are pretty patient and will try to play field position with you and let you make mistakes that can cost you. Coach Sandifer usually does a good job at getting his team ready. If Gainsville plays their game I expect them to win based on talent....however...if you make mistakes and let Wylie hang around and play their style of ball then they can beat you.
