Forney 29, Mesquite Poteet 24

MESQUITE – Andre Derosier rushed for 181 yards and a touchdown to lead Forney to a 29-24 victory over Mesquite Poteet in a 11-4A district matchup Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
Matt McEuen added two crucial touchdowns for Forney (2-6, 1-2). Landon Hartwick passed for 184 yards and Forney's first two ariel touchdowns of the season.
Taylor Dupree gained 123 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Poteet (4-4, 0-3) in a game that went back and forth in the fourth quarter.
A 3-yard run by McEuen put Forney ahead 23-10 lead early in the third quarter, but Poteet battled back. A 1-yard run by quarterback Seth Sartain and then a 9-yard run by Calvin Smith gave Poteet their first lead fo the game 24-23 early in the fourth quarter.
Only four plays later, Forney regained the lead when Hartwick hit McEuen for a 61-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion attempt failed.
Poteet had a number of chances to take back the lead, but turned the ball over on their last two possessions. A 42-yard field goal attempt by Forney's Thomas Moreland came up short with 2:42 left, leaving the door open for another Poteet drive. Runs of 47 and 57 yards by Dupree were wiped out by penalties, before Forney's Jordan Elder came down with an interception to end Poteet's chances.
