Hey GWOOD, are you familiar with a gentleman named David May?? He's from Coleman as well and spent about 8 years coaching here in Iowa Park. He was an All-American golfer at Tarleton State. Great guy.

on a sidenote, most of my family from that area went to Tarleton as well, as ALMOST did my sister until she went to UTSA at the last min.

La Grange
10-18-2005, 04:46 PM
5A- Katy
4A- Bay City
3A- La Grange
2A- Schulenberg/Weimar
1A- Flatonia/Shiner

Katy has great athletic complexes and I think they are the closest 5a to LG. We used to play Bay City every year thats why I had to pick them as my favorite 4a. La Grange would have to be my favorite 3a just because it is my hometown. I am not a big fan of their football anymore, but baseball and softball still bring it in LG. Schulenberg is in the same county as La Grange and they always have great school spirit and community involvement in their sports. Weimar is about 15 minutes away from La Grange and their is a baseball rivalry between the two. Flatonia is also in the same county as LG, so that is why I would have to put them as one of my favorite 1a's. Shiner is right down the road alittle and they have great beer, so that is why I pick them as one of my favorite 1a's.

Yes, I am. My youngest sister and his oldest sister were best friends in high school. Obviously, I am an old geezer.

Didn't know he was a coach. Where is he now?

Coleman County. Great place to grow up, great place to leave, and great place to go back every once in a while. Not surprised that your relatives there were/are "Buddy" and "Sis". Good Coleman County names. I have a brother-in-law we call "Bubba."

Tarleton State huh? Tareleton State is to Coleman area kids as A&M is to Houston area kids

I had 3 nephews grow up in Coleman. All went to TSU. One dropped out. One transferred to A&M and the other will graduate in a year.

AAAAA - The Little SWC and Austin Westlake (not really sure why)
AAAA - Brownwood, Stephenville, Wichita Falls "Old High", CC Calallen (lived down there for a year in the mid '90s), Burnet (cuz of Shipley)
AAA - Sweetwater, Snyder, Graham (my family's hometown), Breckenridge (taught there during my freshman year of HS...gave me a different viewpoint of what small town "tradition" football is like) Gainesville (a lot of friends from there and ALMOST my family's hometown), and Brownfield (dad's alma mater)
AA - Coleman (family), Winters (family), Mason (a LOT of family that I have never met), Celina (followed them through the playoffs their last year winning state...ended up meeting guys off that team in college that have become good friends), Ballinger (a program that I really respect and always enjoyed competing against in high school)
A - Albany (by far my favorite small town of the truly "small towns"), Windthorst (like others...impressed by the program and it is very close to Graham), and Roscoe (the epitomy of a community with hard working kids and EVERYONE gives 100% in every activity they are involved in)

Figured that's what you meant. My wife graduated from there in the 80's. Said the boys all went to San Angelo to date girls. Thought for a second I found out the reason why.

5A CC Carrol, King
4A Alice, GP, CALCats, SV and a few others...
3A Pretty much most of region 4 and a few others outside because of past playoff games and great posters...
2A Odem, Taft, S-T really most from region 4...
1A skip this and go to 6-man...
6-man most winners because these teams tend to have the most interesting names among all Texas cities and towns.

Just incredible, the diversity that is represented poster-to-poster, town-to-town in this thread. I had a feeling that a lot of poster's choices spanned teams that are really separated by pretty good distances and a lot of folks would find "ties" that they did not know about. It would really be interesting if some really heated 3A rival fans found out that they support the same teams in other classes or had common family ties. You never know your fellow man or woman until you make an honest attempt to get to know them. Lots of nice folks out there we haven't gotten to know yet.
