Another dominating performance by the defense. Minus 3 yards on the ground for Roosevelt and just 89 yards total in the game for the Mustangs. They had just 22 yards of offense until there was a minute to go in the game and they scored on a 67 yard TD pass when the outcome was no longer in doubt. Their first score came after, you guessed it, a Madison turnover that set them up inside the Madison 20 yard line. By the time they scored again on a kickoff return for a TD it was 30-7. This is the 4th time in seven games that a Madison opponent hasn't made it to 100 yards total for the game. Gosh if only that offense could just catch fire at the right time!

I was really encouraged tonight by the play of a couple of the kids from New Orleans. That offensive lineman Madison has is a heck of a run blocker and the coaches have said he's the best lineman on the team. Mike Williams got in there at WR and made a nice catch in traffic. It's always nice to be able to have another guy with blazing speed to be able to complement the other 3 speedy WR's Madison has in the lineup. Willie Hutchins had a nice TD catch and they even threw the ball to their TE Chris Mason tonight. I'd sure like to see him become more of a threat at TE since he's 6'6" and has fairly good hands. They've gotta find a way though to get their best WR, Philip Sterling, more involved if they want to make a serious run in the playoffs though. He's too good to not be having better games than he's had lately. Shawnbrey had a fairly ho-hum night. Ran for 161 yards and a couple of TD's. Caught a few passes and had a nice run on a fake punt from his own 25 yard line. (He's not only the starting RB, but he's also the kickoff specialist and the punter.)

One thing I was disappointed in was to see how easily the OC can get distracted and have his attention taken away from the game. They went for a 4 and 1 from about midfield in the 3rd quarter. Great time to make the call since everyone in the stadium knew that even if they didn't get it, Velt wasn't going to be able to do a thing with the ball. They let McNeil run it and he came up short. So the OC is getting the treatment from the fans after the play which honestly isn't anything new and he should be used to this by now as he's been given the business on a fairly consistent basis by several different fans all season. But since he doesn't wear a headset he hears more of the comments I guess than most guys down there and after someone said something along the lines of "Coach you suck" he decided to go ahead and yell back at whoever it was that made the comment. I don't see any instance where he or any other coach should be mouthing back and forth with a fan during a game in any sport. I'd like to hope that if fans get on him again when they play Ferris, Kennedale or whoever they play in the playoffs that he'd have enough sense to just block that stuff out and ignore it and focus on his team and what they need to do and not what the fans think he should do. Hopefully this won't be a situation that repeats itself again this year.

Thanks for the insights JR. Did you go to Madison? I hope your guys do well. They're my sleeper pick this year.
