Key players: Carroll — QB Greg McElroy, DE Michael Boydston. Ryan — WR Justin Fenty, RB Jaiston Sawyer
In the huddle: Fox Sports Net will televise the Thursday night game, marking the second straight year the teams have played on national television. ESPN2 carried Carroll's 52-27 victory last season ...After falling to second-ranked Dallas Highland Park in the season opener, Ryan has rolled in its last five games. ...Fenty has more than 500 yards receiving and six touchdowns. ...McElroy has thrown 21 touchowns and rushed for another six.

CLASS 4A

No. 8 AUSTIN LAKE TRAVIS at NEW BRAUNFELS CANYON

Records: Lake Travis (6-0), Canyon (6-0)

Last week: Lake Travis beat New Braunfels 38-16; Canyon beat Burnet 35-28.

Why it matters: Will decide winner of District 27-4A title.

Key players: Lake Travis — WR Fred Robinson, QB Todd Reesing. Canyon — RB Chase Wilke, DB Jerris Springfield.
In the huddle: The most awaited game in Central Texas so far. Canyon has stayed on the fringe of cracking the state top 10 for most of the season...Simply put, Reesing and Robinson are arguably the best offensive duo in Class 4A. Reesing, who has orally committed to Kansas, has thrown for more than 1,500 yards and 23 touchdowns, 12 of which have been to Robinson. ...Canyon won last year's matchup 10-9.

CLASS 3A

No. 3 SNYDER vs. No. 10 SWEETWATER

Records: Snyder (7-0); Sweetwater (6-1)

Last week: Snyder beat Clyde 42-6. Sweetwater lost to Abilene Wylie 26-3.

Why it matters: Rematch of 3A Division II state quarterfinals

Key players: Snyder — DB Garrett Pinson, QB Matt Reigh. Sweetwater — RB Joseph Banyard, RB Skye Green.

In the huddle: First meeting since Snyder's 21-20 playoff victory, which was secured by a missed extra point that hit the left upright in the final minute. ...Sweetwater tumbled seven spots in the state poll after being routed by Wylie last week. ...Snyder has remained unbeaten while winning by an average margin of 37-6.

CLASS 2A

No. 2 NEWTON vs. HARDIN

Records: Newton (3-0), Hardin (1-2)

Last week: Both teams were idle.

Why it matters: First game since Sept. 16 for both teams.

Key players: Newton — RB Toddrick Pendland; Hardin — QB Kelby Clements

In the huddle: Neither had practiced for more than two weeks after Hurricane Rita knocked out power throughout the region. ...Newton coach Curtis Barbay said "it was amazing how out of shape" his players became during the layoff. But he said it wouldn't take long for Newton to pick up its simplified Wing-T offense again. ...Barbay said one upside from the layoff was that his team avoided injuries or wearing down players.

Last week: Chilton was idle; Axtell lost to Bremond 45-6.

Key players: Chilton — QB Josh Landrum, RB Travis Landrum. Axtell — QB Kevin Neal, RB Ryan Felkner

In the huddle: With only two teams making the playoffs from District 25-A, Axtell, which made the playoffs last year, faces an almost must-win to stay in contention. ...Chilton has outscored its opponents 242-45 so far this season. ...Axtell's Neal has more than 2,000 total yards and 27 touchdowns. ...Josh Landrum has rushed for almost 800 yards and 12 touchdowns.
