What is the biggest HS sports rivalry in Texas, including all classes and sports? Hard to determine for the lower classes because of the finite area of interest and similar crowd sizes.

all sports..that too broad, but in football, i say in no order

Midland Lee and Odessa Permian

In 4a, El Campo and Bay City. The mascots even got into a fight at a game a few years back.

Big stuff in our backyard and a couple of others, Nate---but, statewide appeal?

Hey Bullaholic.dont leave out the Big Sandy. Its got a lot of hype every year and we even got some national headlines before. I read where its ranked as the second or third oldest rivalry in Texas. The attendance is avg. of 8,000 to 10,000. Thats just from what i read and what i see. I think thats pretty good for 3A schools. but in all, I would consider the Abilene schools to have the biggest of all.

Not selling the "Big Sandy" short, Nate---I just don't want to be a "homer" on this one. I would like to find those games in those sports in the state that are considered to be "mini-NC-Dooks or UT-OU's" by fans whose home teams may not be involved in a "big" rivalry, but who know or have interest in another contest of huge appeal.

Longview-Lufkin?

definately a big one. not being in the same district now hurts, but they did play a huge playoff game last year at sfa.

obviously this question is an impossible one to answer ... best rivalry in all classes in all sports?

How 'bout some good ones in the big 2 sports::

FOOTBALL
Killeen-Temple
Nederland-PNG
Lufkin-Nacogdoches
Sherman-Denison
Ennis-Corsicana

HOOPS
Lincoln-SOC
East Central-Sam Houston
Central Heights-Woden
Hastings-Elsik
Fairfield-Mexia

who's to say these 10 rivalries are the 10 best? heck, they may not even be in the top 100! 200!

factor in the over 1300 HSs and rampant homerism and there's just no way. suffice to say there's a bunch of great rivalries.

Thanks, 3AFan---I knew I could count on you for some solid info. That's the kind of stuff I was looking for---I've kind of "lost touch" with the rivalries in some of the other sports and even some of the "emerging" ones in football.

good reply. i could start in 5a and go all the way to 1a in east texas and come up with some tremendous matchups. some years you win and some years you lose.

Last year the whole team almost got into a fight, two actually did, 15 minute delay, the coaches looked like they wanted to go after each other...

This year I saw 3 come close to happening, but the refs and coaches did a great job of calling the dogs off...

the first HS football game every played was El Campo/Bay City, luckily the last two years this game has been playing during Cuero's off-week... close games...

Sorry i just felt like saying this but. My junior year in Decatur we played Arlington Heights, I think there was a total of 4 fights on the field before they called the game. It was only a scrimmage but i think it would be fun to schedule with them. We could make a rivalry out of it... we won by the way!:D

yes, will be taped for me, at least it better be !!!!! but best rivalry in the state? Ryan has only been open - what - 10-12 years? and they have plaved 4-5-6 times? maybe more. anyway, yes its developing into a very good rivalry but not quite best in the state in all sports .... IMO of course
