This is Potomac River ... taken from the Maryland shore ... thats the West Virginia shore across the river and the mountain in the background is in Virginia. The rocks in the river are the reason for the next pic ::

This is the old Chesapeake & Ohio Canal which extended from Cumberland, MD all the way to Chesapeake Bay. It was a working canal, portions of it at least, as late as the 1930s.
