Score was 34-24....
Great game.
.
.
Wimberley:
.
Offense:
no. 11 Weldon is a great passer and runner. He made many accurate passes right on target. Even with tight coverage the ball was always in the recievers' hands. He threw it tight when needed and can throw a decent medium to long ball. His running set up the insurance points late in the 4th quarter. The kids got talent and shows poise.
no. 32 Buse is a pretty good runner. Had good outside speed and enough elusiveness to make defenders miss. A good compliment to this O(good CB too).
no. 14 Dyer is a div. 1 kicker for sure. His 35 and 30 yard FGs had enough distance for 50 yards. One of the two had enough accuracy for 50 yards it seemed.
The offensive line is stout with no. 78 Burnette(6'7"? and listed at 310) a man around boys. He drew lots of attention in this game.
This team is very balanced on offense.
.
Defense:
Lots of great talent. Very solid as a group and pretty fast. As fundamentally sound the O is the defense is their equal. Almost always the DBs stayed with the opposing WRs. A 5 yard pass might net 7. They(secondary) as a unit had nice speed and showed good awareness around the ball. The line was very solid and while not totally impressive against the Bulldogs would be very effective against most teams. The backers played well in both passing and running situations. Not much weakness overall in their D. Good speed and size.

Bandera:
.
Offense:
no. 10 Hicks is the real deal. His passes were crisp with good velocity and also showed a nice touch too. He had a good pass completion percentage against a good secondary. Placed passes where only the recievers could grab them for the most part. Very accurate passer and can run. Good ability to fake. A very talented and solid QB.
no. 32(?) Haywood(?) is fairly small but runs fast and much bigger for his size. Nice ability to see his field and generates yards. Follows blocks well wherever on the field.
no. 84 Rodriquez WR made a great catch(at the least). Good hands.
The whole O-line was very solid and prevented a sack all night from what I remember. Stayed with pass blocks and gave room to run when needed. Overall maybe the strength of this team. Not huge, but very effective and fundamentally really sound.
.
Defense:
The defense as a whole kept the Texans from big plays all night(except one). The unit plays wonderfully together. The line had nice penetration against a bigger line whether by stunt or otherwise. They did give up some yards running but stepped it up when needed. The backs are solid. The secondary had a tall order of facing an above average and senior QB and WR core. They faced off well. This is a very good group that plays good team defense.
.
.
Special teams:
Wimberley and Bandera both have a good kicking games with the Texans getting the nod on the kicker.
They also get the nod for kickoffs returns as they scored in the 2nd half on the opening kickoff return and threatened more than once. There was some "pop" when the Bulldogs in the 4th recovered a Texan fumble after a great Bulldog hit. Sweet.
Punt team looks better for the Texans. A couple of shanked punts from the Bulldogs was frustrating to watch. The punt coverage team was good though.
.
It was refreshing to see Bandera play against this team with heart and dedication. They came back to within seven and never gave up. They can be a dangerous team if they make the playoffs. Still a "darkhorse" for this region imho...
