At this point in the season, these teams are among the "O" and "D" statistical leaders:

"O":

Liberty Hill
Lake Worth
Giddings
Barbers Hill
Gilmer
Sweetwater
Cuero

"D"

Sweetwater
Sinton
Lake Worth
Tatum
Giddings
Gainesville

Who do you think have the best units?

Gilmer Buckeyes "the greatest show on turf". we don't always get the job done, but by golly we are exciting on every play

The Bulls used to be that way, LA, and we still are to a lesser extent. The Bull "O" has always been able to put up the points on just about everybody, but the "D" has been allowing more than the "O" can score. Not good for our team's offensive philosophy or record. Was Daingerfield able to match the Buckeye's speed last week? (Not being sarcastic, BTW).

"Homer" post - our Offense is up there. 1,545 rushing yds, 20 rushing TD's by 3 RB's in 4 games for 2 and 3 for 1. Those numbers do NOT include the QB rushing yds, nor the backups who've played.

Defense - I know Wimberley's D is quite stout and I believe has only allowed around 10 pts/game. (pulling this out of my memory...may be a little off)

ON D these are the top 5

Sinton 5.25 points / game
Snyder 5.8 points / game
Tatum 8.1 point / game
Wimberly 8.8 points / game
Gainsville 9.5 points / game

In my oppinion the bottom line would be keeping the opponent out of the endzone. but there is alway another way to look at stats.

Not my list, STF, I just picked some of the statistical leaders from "among" the leaders--it was not intended to be a "complete" list. Glad you added to it. Who do you think are the "best" units in each category considering other factors other than stats?

Obviously, not seeing other teams, I would have to go with homer picks. Sweetwater's offense seems to be very explosive. They are very fast and can have break-away momentum changing plays at anytime. Snyder's offense has been up and down, but are also capable of the big play that can turn a game. They have some very good weapons on the team.

Defensively, I would have to go with Snyder. Their defense is very tough against the run and the secondary is improving each game. Snyder and Sweetwater were neck and neck last week in points allowed, however giving up 31 to Levelland hurt them. Their secondary seems to be weak, which should be a big concern this week facing Wylie.

yeah...having kendal carillo and duone cunnings both out for a while seems to have affected them...they'll bounce back

Allowing just 5.25 points a game is great... whats even better are the shut outs we've had :)

I think we allowed:
2 FGs vs OG
1 TD vs Beeville
1 TD vs West Oso
0 vs Taft
1 Int TD vs GP
Not bad at all... correct me if i over looked something

i missed a FG in there, someone help me out

Barbers Hill, one of the toughest "D". Most of the points scored against them were on the secondary. A young "D" with a whole lot of talent.

they were also very effective at shutting down our screens. they came into the game very well coached and knowing what they were looking for.

the secondary is part of the D... so explain that one... unless it was an 11 on 3 or 4, the points were scored on the DEFENSE.

Really, is that what I just said? Afraid not. But feel free to twist my words around if you'd like. Bottom line is I'll put BH's defense up against anybody, anytime.

Snyder deserves to be on the d since they have only given up 35 pts.....

I agree with you Big C. If you score on BH it will have to be through the air. Their run defense is as good as it gets in 3A..IMO.

How true is this statement in HS football?:---If you can't stop the pass, you may lose....If you can't stop the run, you will lose.

Whoa wait a minute. Check out the stats at the thsca website. Of the teams that report on there, Canyon has the highest offensive YPG output by a good 80 yards per game. And I did see sweetwater and gilmer on there.

Actually, Liberty Hill has Canyon's YPG beat at 531.8 and Canyon at 516. 531.8 ypg is the highest of any class....SLC comes in at a close 2nd with 527.4.

I don't know that thsca includes totals for every school in the state.

No they only show the schools that the coaches report. It's better than anywhere else ive seen. Kudos to LH, what's the rushing ypg, should be up there. Ours is almost all from the air, which makes things great for a reciever such as myself.

The Houston Chronicle has Columbia at 403 offensive yards a game, but I think it is Closer to 430. The only team with more yards a game in our area is Barbers Hill. Man I wished our game wouldnt have gotten cancelled. It definetly would have been a barn burner.

You're correct, it is up there. I'll get back with you on the yardage...just don't have it together at the moment.

Well i think that if Gainesville could do that kinda damage in non-district..then i cant wait to see what they do in district play! Even if i am an Eagle fan all the way.
