Giddings 47, Caldwell 7

Special to the Eagle

CALDWELL - The Caldwell Hornets failed to grab their first district win of the season, dropping a 47-7 decision to the Giddings Buffaloes on Friday.

Caldwell (1-4, 0-2 in District 19-3A) was hurt by turnovers, as it threw a pair of interceptions and lost two fumbles.

Caldwell scored the first points of the game when David Waters hauled in a 67-yard pass from Bryson Tucker less than a minute into the game, but the Hornets would not score again.

Giddings (5-0, 2-0) began its onslaught when quarterback Brock Fitzhenry found Joel Green for a 35-yard scoring pass.

Giddings' final five offensive scores came on the ground, with Fitzhenry accounting for four of them on runs of 2, 14, 7 and 14 yards. Fitzhenry finished the night with 16 carries for 220 yards.

Devane Jarmon added a 2-yard scoring run and Dominique Crawford tacked on a 40-yard interception return for a score.

The Hornets' Justin Scott had 98 rushing yards on 18 carries and Tucker completed 4 of 10 passes for 127 yards.

Caldwell will be at Cameron next Friday.

I'm looking forward to see the season move along and agree with an earlier poster that Giddings could be a sleeper. They have size, speed and just about everything that is needed in 3A football.
That Fitzhenry kid is something special and the Giddings coaching staff is made up of several of the people that T.J. Mills had up in Odessa. One played for him in Sealy and followed him to Odessa and is now on the Giddings staff. Chances are good that they will be well prepared going into every game. It will be interesting to watch as that district race shapes up. Hutto and Cameron look to be real strong.

Everyone may talk about Cameron and Hutto, Cameron is undefeated so are we, Hutto averages over 40 points a game so do we. But we average a touchdown a game. Oh and also ya'll better get used to the name Fitzhenry he's only a sophmore.

Age probably doesn't matter. I remember in Thorndales glory years their running back was about 21 and the UIL granted him a "waiver" on his age......Go figure that..........

Good to see Giddings doing well. My son was there in 8th & 9th grade and is a senior this year so glad to see "his class" doing well. Hey Buffalo2006 email me. I'd like to know who you are.
