He is the same QB we have had for the last 3 games since the main starter left. He is only a soph. but he is looking better and better each week he plays.

Mustangs sprint to blowout victory over Jersey Bulls
Balanced Ingleside team proves too much for Falfurrias

INGLESIDE - This time around, Ingleside High School didn't wait around until the second half to assert itself.

Ingleside wrested control from the outset Friday night against Falfurrias. And then the Mustangs quickly iced matters with two touchdowns within the first two minutes of what was to be a huge third quarter.

The Mustangs held the Jerseys to no first downs and 16 first-half yards, including minus-3 in the second quarter, and trotted to a 43-0 victory in a Class 3A non-district ballgame.

"We played consistently throughout the ballgame," Ingleside coach Graig Hesseltine said. "I feel we had control. I think we scored all of our points by the end of the third quarter."

The last time Ingleside (3-2) took the field two weeks ago on the heels of a two-game losing streak, they were in a 13-10 battle with Taft through two quarters. But the Mustangs turned on the juice in the second half on the way to a 45-24 victory.

"They had some key players," said Ingleside sophomore Josh Coffield, who rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns. "We knew if we hit them in the mouth early. They'd shut down. The key word from coach Hesseltine all week was play consistently."

Ingleside was equally as deadly to open the second half Friday. Zack Adams returned the kickoff 85 yards for a score and Harold Foster added a 37-yard return off an interception of Fal's Trey Alegria for a score with 10 minutes, 6 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The Mustangs also sacked Alegria five times.

Coffield scored on a 9-yard run and Joel Johnson celebrated his birthday with an 18-yard scoring pass from Travis Chrisman. Johnson also later intercepted a pass. The uprising capped a 28-point third quarter for a 43-0 lead and gives the Mustangs a boost heading into next week's district opener with rival Aransas Pass.

"We're getting better," Hesseltine said. "I attribute that to experience. Some of these younger players haven't experienced varsity football before. Every game we have, we're starting to be a better football team."

Matthew Rodriguez added a rushing touchdown and 88 yards on 15 carries for the Mustangs.

Fal (3-3) has scored at least 20 points in their three victories and was coming off a 28-14 win over Port Isabel in one of the few games that took place last week in the wake of Hurricane Rita. But the Jerseys mounted little against the Mustangs and were their worst enemy with 53 penalty yards during the first two quarters.

"I think the guys in blue were just a step quicker," first-year Fal coach Arturo Garcia said.

Ingleside appeared poised for a rout when it drove 62 yards in seven plays for Rodriguez's 5-yard scoring run the first time the Mustangs had the ball. Two possessions later, Chrisman's 55-yard scoring pass to Adams was negated when Adams was penalized for pass interference.

It mattered little as Fal managed negative yards on three second-quarter.

An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after a punt set up the Mustangs at their 48. Nine plays later, Coffield capped the drive with a 1-yard sneak. Jeffrey Tucher scored the 2-point conversion run on a swinging gate play for the 15-0 edge.
