I heard on the weather channel last night that every 1/2 degree is 30 miles on the coast.

That depends on it's distance from the coast. I assume they were referring to it's current position? I calculate that at 300 miles out, a half degree turn is only about 2.62 miles. At 50 miles out, it's not even a half mile.

Rita is now a Cat. 5..just saw that on the latest recon flight...Rita is just as strong as Andrew was and getting stronger.

Wasn't Andrew a Cat 4 at landfall (in Fla)? I thought it made landfall with 140-145 mph winds. :thinking:

According to National Hurricane Center, it was a category 5 at landfall, third most intense in the history of the US.

Can you post me a link? I've seen a couple of sources that indicate Andrew as a Cat 4. I'm not doubting ya'll... just interested.

actually it will probably get stronger because the closer to land the water is warmer and they said that really fuels up hurricanes but idk this is gettin insane

i dont know, i talked to zim and his whole family is leavin, and i talked to my mom and she said she was gonna wait til my dad gets home and then she is gonna call me, but i kinda wanna go to cuero and see whats up, but idk....

yeah i think the are gonna do a mandatory evacuation on victoria and we are only 28 miles away so cuero might be mandatory too maybe idk
