This has got to be one of the best games in the state this Friday night. Being a Newton fan myself this game has got me on the edge of my seat.
Im going to predict Newton will win in a somewhat close game. I think Newton is to fast for WOS. Im not saying that just because im a fan of Newton. But i just dont see WOS beating NEWTON Friday night. I know WOS is the # 2 team in 3a but when did rankings start to matter in HS football. For EX. Look at Jasper they are a real good team and they were ranked high in the state but they just cant seem to get it together.
But WOS is a different team and we will just have to wait to Friday night.
Good luck to Newton. Im going to say NEW. 35 - 24

We have ALOT of speed as well. I say WOS 35...Newton 21. We have to many weapons on Offense.

I don't think WO-S can handle our speed. I say Newton 35- WO-S 14.

Sure are a lot of Newtonians surfacing this week. As for the speed thing, I guess we'll see Friday who has the most...;)

BH will win this one for sure way to much speed:D Just kidding guys WOS had a good win last week and I'm not sure what is going on with Jasper currently. Should be a good game the winner is the one who hangs onto the rock. Newton by 1:)

Newton may win. But it probably won't be because they have more speed than WOS, I seriously doubt that they do. WOS can also SCOOT! Good luck to both teams! :)

Yeah, speed will not be a determining factor in this game. WOS is at home, 4-0, lot better D, and a much improved offense. WOS will win this game...no way Newton wins in Orange. Have never lost to them before, what makes this year so different?

As much respect as I have for coach Barbay and Newton....I think that WOS will be able to contend with Newton's speed and use their depth and home field advantage to win. I say WOS by 7-14.

WOS home field and passing offense...WOS by 7

Newton or Mary Poppins, does not matter. I can't pick WOS above any team. Newton by 13. :D

If Newton has any size at all on their O-Line, WOS is in for a long night. That Newton running back is as fast as anyone I have seen.

I don't think Newton can hang with the WOS guys. WOS by two TD's.

west orange has to stop the big plays.

from what i have heard, the newton secondary is average at best, that spells trouble for the eagles. wo-s has 3 great receivers, and are very fast. plus, wo-s is getting a few secret weapons this week, and no they are not hurricane victims.

JV players being promoted? :) Man oh man. I've heard about one...

As far as size being an issue, both Bay City and Central were HUGE on the line and fast at the skill positions.

No weapons here. We need some though just for depth. Just spoke to a coach again.

Plus Newton's secondary is their weak spot. The problem with Thursday is if we have evucations that's when it will be. Monday is an option.

I remember a few years ago when we had a Monday night game due to a rainout, but that was during district. Last year, the coaches opted not to reschedule the game that was rained out due to the tropical storm/depression that hit. I hate to say it, but since this is a non-district game, since Newton opens up with district play next week, and because of what happened last year, I wouldn't be surprised if this one doesn't get rescheduled.

Newton doesn't start district next week unless someone moved San Augustine into our district when we weren't looking.

2a Newton Eagles, 4-0, is coming off a very impressive win over the Jasper Bulldogs and is one of the most dominant 2a teams in the state.

WO-S Mustangs, 4-0, has had some good wins while struggling with injuries. Is home field advantage enough to beat Newton?

Couldn't have said it better myself. chain gang, Newton has beaten some very good teams and are extremely talented. I wouldn't be talking too much smack. This WILL BE our toughest test yet. You can mark that down.

Sorry duckbutter.Didn't mean to offend.Just don't think they can beat WO-S.I don't think it will be easy,Newton is a good ball club and is not ranked #1 for nothing.

Fair enough. I will admit that WOS has the advantage, but that's why we play the game.

I'd be curious to hear from some of the Jasper posters that have played or seen both teams play. Who has more speed? My thought is that they are probably about equal.

Just because Newton is 2A, we can't underestimate them. I guarantee, they are better than Nederland and Bay City. You can believe it or not, but athletes are athletes.

Newton beat WOS? Please!!!! What, because they beat Jasper in fumble riddle game, now they are better than WOS? Hell lets just crown them 2A & 3A state champs since the #2 team in 3A will get beat...why don't we throw in Cuero while we're at it to remove all doubt. No one can beat Newton. Better than Bay City and Nederland....slow down son. Speed does not equal win. And believe me WOS has speed to burn too.
