All of the Sinton/Cuero hype could get wiped out. Wouldn't that be some crap. It wouldn't get rescheduled because it is not district. The hype would just carry over to next year. I don't know if I could stand that. A whole year of woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Oh, I don't know about this. The hurricanes usually have to cross the Yucatan to hit south Texas. Of course, there isn't anything that says they have to follow their own tradition.

I have my horses I'd need to get outta here and no transportation to get them out. It'd definitely depend on how big this thing gets!

If it's a Cat 3, 4, or 5, I hope you'll go to higher ground. Look at the destruction caused by Andrew in Florida and Katrina in Mississippi. It wiped the landscape clean. IF it were heading towards Galveston, a small wobble to the north could place the worst part of the storm right on top of SE Texas, SW Louisiana.

BUT, there's still a lot of time before they really know where it will go. I remember Andrew was supposed to hit the upper Texas coast and ended up taking a right turn into Louisiana. I got to evacuate for that one because I was living in Groves at the time.

yeah. We stated getting our things together. There is only so much you can take with you. If it goes as they expect it dosn't look good for our small town. We are planing to leave wensday night. There is only one road into sabine and one way out. It floods very easy.

We were stuck here for 8 days when T.S. Felisha hit. The road had 5 ft of water in some places.

This is true, but if it's a category 4 or 5, I don't think it'd matter much if you were 15 feet below or above sea level! The spot that NOAA has it coming in looks to be about Matagorda, which is only 50 miles or so south of Wharton. Bay City is even closer to the coast than us. I need to know as early as possible so I can get myself, my kids and animals all out. The bad thing is I'm a single parent and have no family here in town, so I'd have to do it all myself! Haven't figured out how I'd transport all my animals yet. Just a big U-Haul, I guess, lol!

After moving inland, Rita should turn straight north...Dry air intrusion from West Texas might erode the western side of the storm, meaning areas closer to San Antonio might not get a drop of rain. This is assuming a storm making impact SW of Galveston. Either way Southeast Texas and the Houston area will get a heavy rain. Games taking place somewhat near the coast from near and northeast of Corpus Christi, to Houston to Orange have a highly likely chance of being cancelled. :(

I just saw on the news, on after the ballgame, that they gave a projection of what it MIGHT look like if a cat 4 or 5 storm hit with 20 foot storm surge. Texas City was completely under as was all the areas right around Galveston Bay. Flood waters reached almost to Alvin. They also just said that it could be a cat 4 by Wednesday.

This is really scary. If a cat 4 hit anywhere near here, I doubt my house would still be on it's blocks, pier and beam construction. It's a two story, so I would think it would be easier for extremely high winds to literally move it off it's blocks.

Suggestions on how I'd move, essentially by myself, 2 geese, 3 chickens, 11 doves, 4 adult dogs and a litter of 7 one-week old puppies, 6 cats and 2 horses. (Yes, I do live in the country!) Oh yeah, I guess I can't forget the 2 turtles and 1 fish.

I know, I should be in bed, but can't sleep.

As it looks this morning, the track has been shifted back down south a ways. This would put us on the dirty side, Wharton, Victoria and Corpus looks like its also back under the gun. I asked one of our school officials yesterday what was the plan and was told as soon as they knew something then they'd let us know. I don't want to wait until Thursday or Friday to find out! It'd take me a bit to get things in order! Guess I better start making some preparations now! I slept all night with the Weather Channel on myself! They are saying now that Rita may not get to major hurricane strength though.

All my fellow 3adlowers take care and may you stay safe and out of harms way!

The NOAA discussion did also warn against following the little black line exactly, (and they really put it that way too). The path could still waver, one way or the other. I just hate this waiting....and waiting....

How many folks that are probably gonna be affected by this are heading out Thursday? Any tomorrow? Anybody in the danger zone still having school on Friday?

Galveston Calls for Voluntary Evacuations By JUAN A. LOZANO, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 21 minutes ago

GALVESTON, Texas - Taking a cue from the suffering in New Orleans, officials called for a voluntary evacuation of this island city as Hurricane Rita threatened to slam into the Texas Coast this weekend. Officials also began steps to fly thousands of Hurricane Katrina refugees in Texas shelters to Arkansas.

Rita, approaching the Florida Keys, was upgraded to a hurricane Tuesday morning, and sustained wind reached 85 mph by late morning. Gov. Rick Perry on Monday recalled all emergency personnel helping with recovery from Hurricane Katrina to prepare for Rita, including almost 1,200 Texas National Guard members.

"We're preparing for potential inland flooding and tornadoes by prepositioning water rescue teams," governor's office spokeswoman Kathy Walt said Tuesday.

Authorities stressed that those fleeing the coastal area should bypass Houston, which Mayor Bill White noted could lose power and is prone to flooding, and drive on to Dallas, San Antonio or Austin.

Harris County Judge Robert Eckels warned that the Houston Astrodome, which temporarily sheltered tens of thousands of Katrina refugees, could not be used if a storm headed that way because of its glass roof.

Katrina refugees still in Houston-area shelters were to be flown on commercial airliners to Arkansas starting Tuesday afternoon.

Roland Mitt, 36, of New Orleans, was one of those in Houston reluctantly awaiting the trip to Arkansas.

"I'm so much tired I'm running out of patience," he said. "I'm upset, I'm mad, I'm disgusted — all of the above."

Arkansas is prepared to take up to 4,000 Katrina refugees from Texas, officials said.

"We could potentially be looking at taking an enormous amount of people from Houston," Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said. "We're going to have to prepare in the event. It would tax us if we had to, but we would do it."

Arkansas already is home to about 50,000 Katrina evacuees, most of them staying with friends and relatives.

Officials in Galveston, which is some 40 miles southeast of Houston, said residents should begin leaving Tuesday. This month marks the 105th anniversary of the hurricane that wiped out Galveston in one of the deadliest natural disasters in U.S. history. An estimated 8,000 people were killed.

Officials said a mandatory evacuation could be ordered if Rita strengthens into a Category 3 hurricane, with wind of up to 130 mph and the potential to create flooding up to 8 miles inland. A forecast track put the storm near the Texas coast by early Saturday.

"Today is boarding up and decision day for Galvestonians," city spokeswoman Mary Jo Naschke said Tuesday morning.

Buses were to begin running Tuesday for people who can't leave on their own, taking them to shelters about 100 miles north in Huntsville. Residents may take pets in cages along on the buses, Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas said. "We found that so many people didn't want to leave New Orleans because they didn't want to leave their pets behind," she said.

Looks like our govt. learned from the LA diaster.

Crap...this is all starting to worry me. I have filled up two vehicles, bought canned goods, batteries, charcoal etc.....I think I should start making a list of the things I am or will be forgetting in the next two days.

What's sad is, it will be affecting many of us along the Texas Coast. While I was driving around at lunch, I was thinking of the numerous posters on the board and how spread out along the coast many of us are...:(

I will be thinking of each of you and PLEASE everyone prepare for the worst. I am not trying to sound like the voice of doom, but truly hope everyone stays safe...and in the meantime, try to keep me calm.;) :D

You might still want to stock up on some water at your house if you end up leaving. Fill sinks, bathtubs, containers, pans etc...

They say it is a good idea to freeze 1 gallon containers of water. This will help keep your food in the freezer a bit longer if the power goes out plus it can be used for drinking etc...

Oh, and I don't need football tickets now, they moved our game to Thursday also. I don't seem to be very worried about football now.:(

Are the gas cans going to be filled and taken with you? Is this for "just in case" you get held up in evacuation traffic?

I agree Adidas, having the time to prepare is a blessing for sure! I feel much better knowing my homeowners and flood insurance is paid too. I can't even begin tell you'll how many people called me today for Flood Insurance. It's way too late to think about getting insurance of any kind now. :(
I am going to wait until about 10 tonight to go to Walmart for batteries etc. I went a while ago and it was a madhouse. Another thing to remember is to make your stocked up on prescriptions etc. And another word of advice, put your most important documents, bank stuff, insurance pol, birth certificates etc in an air-tight, waterproof container. All you players (or moms and dads) get your son's and daugther's medals and other memorabilla, etc and put them in ziplock bags for safe keeping. Much better to be safe than sorry. :)

Calm down YaYa...
Right after I posted before I received a call from my wife in SA. Her truck broke down in the drive-thru of our Walgreens. She was upset with all the cars honking behind her.:( The guy who was behind her moved and she was able to back up out of the lane. The transmission went out!!!:( She had reverse but no forward gears. She had no way to pick up the kids, who were at Prime-time(YMCA aftercare). She left work earlier today with a horrible sinus infection and after seeing the doctor she was trying to get her prescriptions filled. She didn't have our friend's numbers programmed on her phone, so she was upset, hot(100 degree weather) and a little scared. I gave her the numbers she needed and a friend picked her up and the kids and brought her home. The minute after I got off the phone with her I jumped into our spare truck and ran back home to SA. My brother will pick me up from here so I can make get back down to Sinton and work.
There.....
Have you made an anti-Sinton potion YaYa? We can't seem to win for losing, when I made it back home tonight I discovered a huge gash on the side of the tire I just drove up here in. The tires are new Michelin tires and we have just had an absolutely terrible run of luck recently(central ac out, my car broke down among other things).
.
Back to my comment....
I forgot if this thread was just about the storm or not and was just "ribbin" ya.
.
In addition to Denise being sick she's started to make all preparations for us hosting quite alot of relatives. I'm glad I'm able to help her tonight but it still is stressfull for everyone. When you wife calls you almost in tears, you act.
Sorry for the late answer.
(this might be a piracy but I hope I can be forgiven :))

YaYa I knew you were kidding, if I came off a little strong it's just the stress.:o

gobblerfan02, believe it or not I actually thought of you. After she called me I was thinking, "Man, I wonder what gf02 is doing."
lol
We have a lot of good friends up, but some work odd hours and are caught on Bandera, HW90 and other places when she called. Some work till 6 or later. Don't worry, my great neighbor Anthony was down the road. You just never know when these things happen.
.
Enough about us...:)
.
I saw a total of 14 "eighteen wheelers" with flatbeds full of plywood. All heading down to Corpus Christi. I saw one Home Depot truck heading back toward SA. I saw this during my five hours on 37 today. It looks like shipments are coming in, I hope they meet demand.

it is a 3 now....115 mph sustained winds....this is gonna be an ugly storm...as warm as the gulf is it is possible it could be a 5, hopefully not though...it will most likely be a 4.....not good, not good at all....

One top source said that it most likely will be a 4 or 5 next day or two. Good news, they(super storms) tend to fall apart within a day. Expected 2, 3 or at worse 4 hitting the Texas coast. Not much hope but if the storm stalls, then look out. History favors a 4 or 5 hitting a little lower than expected. I hope this thing just desolves in a spray of saltwater but preparing for the worst. Gni yall.

Oh well. I'll treat it as a mini-vacation. Now, if only I didn't have to go buy some plywood.

I really want to stay, but common sense tells me I should go. My Mom called yesterday and she had heard that Wharton will be one of the hardest hit areas with a lot of damage. The thing that is breaking my heart is that I can't take all my animals with me, so I'll have to make the gut-wrenching decision on who has to get left behind. I sat and balled like a baby last night over this agonizing decision. I look at each one of em, give em a hug, all the while the thought running through my head of how can I make the decsion of who to leave behind!

Gas lines were LONG yesterday at Walmart and they were about to run out of gas. I got there just in time. Our school officials hadn't made any kind of decsion as of yesterday. I did hear that Bay City was closing school at 11 or 11:30 tomorrow morning and six weeks test had been postponed. I have no plywood for windows and can't get any and not even any duct tape, the handy man's....huh....handy woman's tool! I'm so afraid I'm gonna come back and not have a house to come back too. I'll probably be going to Lufkin to my parent's house.

Hey, I could probably catch the Lufkin Panthers at home Friday night! LOL! Gotta laugh to keep from crying.
