#11 Trinity University goes 3-0 with nailbitter win on the road at Redlands University in California. Ted Barnhardt (Victoria, db transfer from SMU) intercepts on Trinity 10 with 17 seconds left to preserve 28-25 win.
TLU almost upsets Mary Hardin Baylor in American Southwest Conference openner losing 28-21. Lots of Cuero players on TLU, a very good team that has so far lost to #11 Trinity 31-23 and now #2 MHBU. They have several players from area 3A schools like Luling, Edna, La Vernia etc.
TLU has a tremendous throwing game behind Shawn Salinas at QB, who holds TLU all time total offense record with over 5200 yards in his career with 8 games remaining.
TLU should get a wildcard berth in the playoffs this year coming from one of the toughest DIII conferences with TLU, Hardin-Simmons and MHBU all fighting it out for the conference crown. Actually I wouldn't be surprised to see a two or even three way tie for the championship with these three schools beating up on each other.
