that the national average is down too 2.15, and gas is cheaper in California than it is here....now someone explain to me, that when they raised the gas prices 60 cents becuase of fear katrina would knock the crap out of our gas lines....then turn around and they have released reserves, gotten the few lines that did go down almost back to working has the price not dropped.....explain to me that......

did you hea correctly?? Because I know gas is still like 350 a gallon in New York. Was it 3.15 or 2.15 for the national average?

The thing that gets me is that we all get excited when gas goes down from $3.00 to $2.85. It's like we're accepting where it is and that we should be glad its down. I understand you gotta take what you can get, but it was tough to make ends meet when it was 1.50 or so, and now we're forkin out 40-60 bucks every time. Anyways, its the same old news, but still makes for good conversation on here and a way to rip the government.

You are right football4life. They are going down a little so we won't complain. The Fat Cats don't think we are very bright. We know what they are doing but I don't know if we can do anything about it. Not to get political but it is a shame this isn't an election year.

you know people..we really can not gripe about gas prices. at least we are able to buy gas. those poor la ppl...

The thing is if we were getting it from Iran if they announced they were stopping then the Fat Cats would raise the gasoline prices a lot quicker than they will drop them when it is going the other way around as it is doing now.

You are correct. The national average is $3.15, not $2.15. AJ is either mistaken, or heard an erroneous report.

Here's the closest thing I found from yesterday... http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050906/bs_nm/energy_gasoline_dc_2

Although, it's neither $2.15 nor $3.15, it's closer to mine than yours. :p

Of course, if this were the Price is Right, I lose and you win. :(

That's only on the wheel, though. On the "items up for bid" and the "showcases", it's the closest without going over.

BUT, wouldn't $1.00/gallon gas be great?!

How can gas prices go up .80 cents in one week but the next week ONLY go down .05 cents?? Why not more than that?? Damn those FAT CATS!!!

This is whats crazy. Gas closed on the market today at 2.04 per gallon. But thats before taxes and store capitol are figured in.

Also a little good news. The EPA has certian standards for the gas that we burn in our cars. When a unit is in the process of makeing gas and they make a bad batch that doesn't pass EPA standards they put it aside in holding tanks to be burned off.

We have stockpiles of this stuff. It will not make your car run bad but it will cause global warming. Anyhow the EPA is going to lift their standards to get this lower quality gas on the market at a much cheaper price.

I dont wanna burst anyone's bubble, but Gas Prices are not up because the Fat Cats are trying to get richer.

Though they are, but there is a limit to where they can go.

OPEC, is the real reason behind the madness.

Opec basically decides the price of gas, by limiting the amount of oil that can be pumped in all of the oil produciing nations. If they keep the production down, the prices stay up, and therefore drive the gas prices up.

Do you think any of those guys are gonna let these countries produce more oil right now, with all the money they're making.

I have seen it as low as $2.74 in Gainesville. We went to Lewisville on Monday and it was$3.00 plus. All it needs to do is drop about a dollar a gallon and I will be happy!

I don't buy the global warming crap... but aside from that, what is the difference in burning it off and burning it in a car???

Is that what's going on when we see those oversize bunsen burners glowing at night?

If it's going to be burned anyway, better in cars than just wasted. And I'm sure those companies would rather sell it than waste it. Geeeeeez, our government uses the best logic.

The earth has always been either moving toward an ice age or moving away from an ice age. It's as simple as that.

In my area of Baton Rouge some of the cheapest prices are $2.59-$2.99. But, at least there is gas to buy finally, for the last week it has been hard to find. There were lines literally miles long in some areas. And a friend that works for Exxon says they are producing at the minimum and if they didn't get some more crude in today they were going to have to shut down completely.
