I live roughly 8 miles north of ol' Holliday and their 1 loss was to cross county rival and perennial class A powerhouse Windthorst. The Eagles will bounce back and will be ready to put it on somebody.

Other game was a victory over another cross county rival Archer City. I'm not sure of the score but it was rather lopsided.

I coached my son in peewee football for 7 years and we always played Merkel. Now he is playing the same group of kids in varsity. We have never had a problem with Merkel.

That's kind of like asking what the good people of Snyder ever did to the good people of Sweetwater or vice versa to have such a heated rivalry. Back in the day, Merkel and Wylie were bitter rivals but that was long before my time. It was nasty for a while--and that goes both ways-- but I honestly don't know why it continues. I've met a lot of nice folks from Merkel and I hope they beat Holliday by 21 points.

Last season there were at least 15 cars that were vandalized during the Wylie game. That happens every time we go there. Basketball the same stuff happens. Baseball thank goodness its daylight. They had some rednecks parked in their 1978 Chevy trucks with big tires just outside of the outfield fence hollering obscenities and trash talking the whole game and no adminstrators ever took care of the matter.

As far as I know...the Bearcats have never had any problems with the Merkel fans....always seem like great people. I am going to go with the Badgers in a close one over Holliday by 3.

Well that would 'splain it. I didn't go to the game last year. I hope the Wylie folk have enough sense not to retaliate at our home field this year, except on the field.

Wylie does not allow their students to go to the other side of the stadium much less to the oppositions parking lot. There are at least 3 school employees that watch for migraters. Hopefully none will sneak through.

Wylie is a pretty cool place to see a ball game. They have their stuff together as far as controlling things going on around the field.

I just wish Wylie would put a little money into the stadium enlarge it a bit. At the first game there wasn't een a billboard or anything other than the announcer to acknowledge the State Championship.

Saw that on the news. Holliday is a quality football team. Not only that -- they won the Lone Star Cup I think the last two years so they have a lot of good athletes. I'll be there in the morning for a X - Country meet.

Did Merkel have anything coming back this year? For some reason, these guys have played us close the last two years when I thought we would run over them. Of course they had Lambert both years but they seem to have slipped a bit.

the key players that merkel had come back from last year are trevor hood (senior) and zack maxey (senior). maxey has been out for the first few games because of an injury. of course, merkel lost their important key player last year (riley lambert) so it's going to be a rough year...

Between losing a player like Lambert and some of your coaching staff, it will be a tough year. They will find their groove. Merkel isn't one of those teams you can look past. It will come back to haunt you.
