SAN ANGELO — Thanks to Sweetwater, San Angelo Lake View was shut out for the second week in a row by a member of District 4-3A.

On the heels of a 41-0 loss to Wylie last weekend, the Chiefs (0-2) fell to the Mustangs 40-0 on Friday at San Angelo Stadium. Sweetwater improved to 2-0, backing up its No. 7 ranking and scoring at least 40 points for the second week in a row.

"We have got a lot of kids back," Sweetwater quarterback Kendall Carrillo said. "We have been through the system. The line has stepped up great. We are keeping it rolling."

Carrillo rushed for 58 yards on eight carries, and completed all eight of his passes for 122 yards.

After gaining only 24 yards of offense against Wylie last week, the Chiefs managed 42 against the Mustangs.

"I am disappointed," Lake View coach Tim Reid said. "I thought we would be improved, but obviously we weren’t."

Sweetwater scored on five of its six first-half possessions. The other possession ended with a fumble.

Skye Green got the scoring started for Sweetwater. The junior scored from 22 yards out with 8:04 remaining to put Sweetwater ahead 7-0. Joseph Banyard scored the Mustangs’ second touchdown just before the end of the first quarter, running in from one yard out.

With 9:11 left in the first half, Sonny Birdwell broke loose for a 46-yard touchdown and with 3:54 left in the first half, Carrillo scored from 24 yards out to make it 28-0.

Then, with less than a minute left before the half, Banyard scored again — this time from 19 yards out, with 48 seconds remaining.

"We have seen a lot of good things," Sweetwater coach Kent Jackson said. "There are some things we are excited about, but we are still making some mistakes."

The Mustangs scored only once in the second half. Sweetwater took the second half kickoff and ran seven minutes off the clock. On fourth-and-goal from the Lake View 1-yard-line, the Mustangs settled for an 18-yard field goal by Parker Morrow,
Sweetwater’s last two points came by way of a safety when the Chiefs were flagged for holding in the end zone with 1:32 left in the third quarter.

"We are coming together as a team and looking good right now," Carrillo said.

Lake View quarterback Donnell Harris led the Chiefs in rushing with 36 yards on 13 carries. He was sacked once. Lake View’s other quarterback Ethan Reid was sacked four times.

Reid and Harris combined to complete 4-of-11 for 18 yards.

"We did a few good things," Reid said. "Sweetwater is real fast. We got out-quicked. We will look at the film and try to get better. If you are going to fault anyone, fault me."
