Cuero booster club helping to raise money for victims

Bob Davis and a friend decided to take a break from cleaning up debris after the Guadalupe River had overflowed its banks and flooded much of Cuero in 1998.
"We were hot and tired and were going to get something to eat," Davis recalled. "We were just about to go when here comes this Red Cross truck. They asked what we were doing and we told them and they told us they had food and we all sat down and ate. The thing about it is most of the Red Cross workers are volunteers and they do so much to help."
Davis hasn't forgotten the generosity and he had an idea while watching scenes of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Davis asked members of the Cuero Athletic Booster Club at Wednesday night's meeting if they would be willing to make a contribution to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of the hurricane.
Booster club members agreed to donate $1,000 to the Red Cross, but they didn't stop there. They began seeking contributions and by Thursday evening had raised over $2,500.
Members of the booster club will be accepting contributions on the Cuero side of the field when the Gobblers travel to La Grange for tonight's football game.
They also plan to continue the fundraising for the next two to three weeks.
In an effort to raise more funds, the Cuero boosters have challenged other booster clubs in the state to join the effort.
