View Full Version : KTJ's Preview, Week 1 - (2) Texas vs. Louisiana-Lafayette
Texas starts off the year against ULaLa and is on a race to return to the Rose Bowl. While many people think the loss of DJ and Benson is big, they will be really surprised to see the team a bit stronger and more motivated. Of course we have Vince Young to lead the team and look for VY to take control in a similar fashion to what he did last year. Selvin Young is back after a devistating injury last year at Arkansas and Ramonce Taylor and freshman Henry Melton are MONSTERS. Coach Chizik is a defensive genius and the UT defense will pick up right where it left off. The kicking game is still questionable as well as special teams.
I don't know a clue about ULaLa except that they have a 0.1% chance of winning this game.

Oh yeah, I believe efforts are underway to pass buckets, hats, etc. at the game to collect money for hurricane victims. This was spearheaded by UT, various tailgating groups and alumni, the students, and the city of Austin.

Texas will be playing a better team than most realize. I say Texas will win though by 17 to 14.

I cannot believe Texas schedules such powers like ULaLa.I guess a win is a win, but a national power like Texas you would expect to play LSU or someone like that .

i saw vince young was 14-16, im not sure how updated that is, but good gracious, thats some accuracy for ya, even if it is against an unranked team. its still a huge improvement.

Its one thing that the preseason polls had UT ranked 2nd in the nation, and picked to win the Big 12, but now OU lays down today and A&M is letting Clemson sneak in.... :doh:

We play Ohio State.
We can't load our schedules with OSU, LSU, Michigan, USC for every OOC game. You do realize that the BCS system is still in place, right? One loss, and you're 80% likely to not play for the NC game.

You also have to think that the only way for some of these 'no-named' schools to get their team even CLOSE to BCS ratings/bowl games is to schedule AND BEAT 'TOP' teams... so a lot of the top teams agree to play these 'no-named' schools...
that's just how the dung gets flunged...
Heck, USC play Hawaii today, Tennesse played University of Alabama-Birmingham, Michigan play some Mac team ( think, Wisconsin played a Mac-team, forget who Ohio State played but it was a no-name...
You also have to take into consideration that some schedules this year were arranged in the year of 2000... there's a waiting list out there...

Port Arthur Memorial. He was a Parade All American last year as he ran for 2,056 yds on 260 carries and 25 tds.

Don't be fooled by the one sided score though. It was close for a while there.
The ONLY team on the face of this earth that SUCKS more than WOS is UT. The only other team that is even close to them is OU and they are nothing more than an extension of UT.....look at their freaking roster.

What, was Mary Hardin Baylor's schedule full already? or better yet, go ahead and holler at Coach Young at Canyon Vista Middle School in north austin to get that "game" locked for 2008!

a few things need to happen for Texas to win this game. win the turnover ratio. do a lot better on kickoff coverage than they did in the Rose bowl (field position). get their extra point team shored up. play aggressive and blitz often defensively. no big plays by Ginn or others offensively and on special teams. be able to run the ball to set up the play-action on offense. play with great confidence and determination.

Well, Texas State was already on A&M's schedule so Texas settled for Louisiana Lafayette.

All schools schedual at least one gimmie game the first 3 games of the season. a&m used to do it with La. Tech. Powerhouse there. :rolleyes:
