The Ladies will be leaving for Michigan this weekend to play Michigan State and Michigan. As a note of historical interest the lady below is Alanna Makinano who was one of UT's first big stars. This is a 1997 picture of her in action.

One way that players can make points is by goals and assists. Both ultimately mean a goal for a team but a player can make a point without being the scorer. For example if a player has 5 goals she is award 2 points for the goals which total ten points. If she has four assists (where she may have kicked the ball to a player who was able to score) then she gets one point for each assist which means she would get 4 points. The total would add up to 14 points for her on the 5 goals and 4 assists.

Talk about edge of the seat excitement - this occured in UT's playoff game against West Virginia. UT had a 2 to 1 lead but West Virginia had the ball near the UT goal and had a chance to send the game into overtime. The player from WV kicked the ball toward the goal as time expired. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced back to the field of play and a WV player kicked it over the goal but too late. Time had expired and UT advanced. A thrilling game indeed!

The soccer program at UT is still fairly young compared to some other universities. The first UT team was in 1994 - 11 years ago.

One good thing about soccer and all other sports like rowing and softball is that a lot of players can get scholarships. Some of them can get one at junior colleges and even if they don't get to play after two years at least they have had two years education provided for them.

Tonight the ladies go to Michigan to play Michigan. The two teams have met twice before with Michigan winning in 1995 by 2 to 1 and Texas winning in 2004 by 4 - 1. Sunday the Ladies Play Michigan State. They have also met twice with Michigan State winning in 1995 by the score of 2 - 1 and Texas winning it in 1996 by 4 -1. After that the Lady Horns have a little well deserved time off from games (but not practice!) until Monday Sept 12 when they go play Utah at Provo, UT.

UT loses a close one to Michigan 3 to 2 on the road. Good game by the Lady Horns but this wasn't their night to win. Keep fighting Ladies!!

The UT Ladies tied Michigan State today 0 - 0. A good defensive game and we came close to getting a goal but the goalies were playing great. The game went into the two overtimes and since it was just a regular season game they didn't have the decisive free kicks like they do in playoffs. We didn't do too bad this weekend on the road having a loss and tie but we are a young team and need to work on the next level where we can win more games on the roads. I think the young team will work it out. Go Lady Horns!
Hook 'em!

Next up for the Lady Horns will be Utah at Provo, UT on September 12 (Monday). Then a real treat on Friday September 16 at 7:30 P.M. when they play Portland who is always highly ranked and were national champions in 2002. This will be a good game for our Ladies and hopefully we will get revenge since Portland knocked us out of the playoffs last year in Portland by the score of 2 to 0. I know most of us will be busy with high school football games but those that are in Austin and not able to make any football games then please consider going to the game and supporting the Lady Horns against Portland.
