People have lost everything and your comparing that to your school books? This has to be the most self absorbed post I've ever seen.

Either that or a really bad joke.

Good stuff, Rabbit. I have family scattered along the MS coastline from Bay St. Louis to Biloxi to just north of Pascagoula (Lucedale) and the ones in Biloxi need a new home, so I understand where you're coming from.

But I'm still recovering from the abdomenal hemmorraging I suffered a few minutes ago. I busted a gut reading this thread.

How are they ever going to get the water out of N.O. with it being below sea level???

Rabbit'93

There best hope is to stop the flow of water into the city by repairing the levees. And then get the pumps to work. They're saying it could take months.

LEAPORD 75 WHEN THE WATER BECOMES EQUAL WITH THE LAKE AND INSIDE THE CITY THEY CAN SAND BAG THE LAKE .THEY HAVE HUGE PUMPS TO PUMP IT OUT .THEN.THEY ALSO CAN CUT THE LEVEE OPPOSITE THE LAKE WHEN THE WATER RECEDS AND LET IT DRAIN OUT INTO LOWER ELAVETIONS.

when the water becomes level w/ the lake then most of new orleans will be 5-15 ft below sea level, and that is the level that was before the hurricane, w/ the water that was dumped in the lake from Katrina it will be more like 10-20 ft maybe even up to 30 ft....that much water would destroy whatever has survived up to this point....they better get the levy sand bagged tomorrow when the national guard is supposed to start on it or it will keep getting worse....

what i worry about is what happened to florida (last year i believe). there could be other hurricanes follow in that path and hit them again. :(

The conceiving part is pretty easy. The rest is a bit more difficult, at least to do it right.

A casino barge sits on land across highway 90, center, in Biloxi, Miss. Tuesday Aug. 30, 2005 after Hurricane Katrina passed through the area. The barge floated in the Gulf of Mexico, left, and was forced ashore by the onslaught of Katrina.

There is no lower elevation on the other side. It all has to be pumped out.

I'm sure most of these people are desperate and some are just greedy trying to get something for free but from what I heard today the Mayor has ordered a complete evacuation of New Orleans and if that is the case then these people I'm sure will only get to leave with bare essentials and not TV sets and stereos. I cant imagine the national guard loading these people up in buses or trucks and allowing them to leave with big screen tv's. As far as food, clothes, etc. I cant really blame any of these poor people for taking what they need to survive and get by. Think of what you would do if you had your family there.
