Gainesville - 33 Scotts Valley (CA) - 0
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville defeated Scotts Valley (Calif.) 33-0 Friday at Gainesville's Leeper Stadium in a game dubbed the Sizzle Bowl by the two schools.
Gainesville (1-0) jumped out to a 16-0 lead and added two second half touchdowns. Their defense limited Scotts Valley to just 80 total yards. Scotts Valley fumbled on their first offensive play of the game and Gainesville took advantage two plays later as Michael Miller scored on a 3-yard run. Miller also ran in the two point conversion to make it 8-0
just 36 seconds into the game.
Gainesville had a 36-yard touchdown pass called back on their next offensive possesion, but they did score the third time they had the ball as Jacob West ran a quarterback keeper into the end zone from eight yards out. Gainesville went for two again and West connected with Collin Sikes on a pass to put GHS ahead 16-0.
Neither team scored in the second quarter, but Gainesville went up 23-0 in the third quarter when Sikes threw a 41-yard bomb to Yusef Stevenson.
In the fourth quarter, Arenas nailed a 27 yard field goal and Casey Martin had a 26-yard interception return for a score for the final Gainesville points. The final score could have been worse, but Gainesville had another touchdown in the second half negated by a penalty.
The game was reportedly just the seventh time that a Texas football team had played a team from California.

WTG Leopards! Looks like the Scotts had a pretty stingy defense themselves. Thanks Gainesville for representing Texas High School football well!:)

The Leopards looked good last night other than too many flags, including 3 touchdowns called back. I think that about everyone got to play for the Leopards on Friday night. I was realy proud how they represented Texas high school football!!! What a crowd and the excitment of a new season was in the air. Gainesville will be off next week and then they will face a tough Decatur Eagle team September 9th, followed by a 4-A Forney team on September 16th.

Yeah, HSF and others, how was the crowd?

Was it the size of the Celina game a few years ago?

Yeah I thought the crowd would have been larger as well, the Gainesville side wasn't completely full.

The Gainesville D was awesome!

Gainesville fans don't come out of the woodowork until the playoffs. That's what Gaines-vegas is notoriously known for and it sucks.

that's just been in the last 10-15 years. before that it was always standing room only on the home side.

I.M.O, the reason that it's that way is because we are playing smaller towns than we use to play. And the level of the competion is not as exciting as it was when they played people like Denison, S.G.P., Mckinney and so on. i miss the old days when the games were standing room only and they even had end-zone seats at the North end.

I think that also has to do with lots of people moving out of the city so all that's left now are the old people who don't go to games. (which is why Gainesville has a population of near 17,000 but is only a 3A school.)

Also the fact that we have crappy facilities hurts as well.
