DISTRICT 19-3A

HOW THE DISTRICT COULD PLAY OUT

Caldwell 10-2, 6-1 2004 9 off., 8 def.
Cameron Yoe 11-2, 6-1 2004 7 off., 5 def.
Giddings 6-4, 4-3 2002 7 off., 7 def.
Hutto 6-4, 4-3 2001 9 off., 8 def.
Rockdale 6-5, 5-2 2004 6 off., 5 def.
Manor 4-6, 2-5 2003 5 off., 5 def.
La Grange 1-9, 0-7 2003 3 off., 5 def.
Smithville 0-10, 0-7 1987 7 off., 6 def.

Did you know?

What a turnaround. One year after going 1-9, Cameron Yoe went 11-2, going three steps into the playoffs. Manor, meanwhile, dropped from 10-3 in 2003 to 4-6 in 2004.

By the numbers

10-0: Record last season for Manor's freshman team.

24: Receptions for returning Rockdale WR Casey Lane.

300: Yards rushing for returning Smithville RB Chris Heywood.

838: Yards rushing for Hutto TB Jerrick Gauthier.

Five to watch

Five players from District 19-3A who can make a big difference:

Derrick Evans, Cameron Yoe
6-4, 190 WR Sr.
All-State pick last year figures to be a major force.
D.J. Marek, Rockdale
5-11, 180 QB Sr.
Passed for 273 yards, rushed for 115.
Kevin McManus, Caldwell
6-0, 180 RB Sr.
Rushed for 270 yards last year.
Ryan Seidel, Smithville
6-1, 200 LB Sr.
Defensive stalwart led the Tigers with 100 tackles.
Tyler Supak, La Grange
5-10, 170 LB Sr.
Supak responded with 74 tackles last season.

Around the district

One of the most competitive districts in Central Texas appears to be a two-team race between Caldwell and Cameron Yoe. Both tasted playoff success last season and they return plenty of starters to make 2005 an interesting season. Caldwell ranked No. 1 in the state in scoring defense, yielding 10.8 points per game. Opponents averaged only 176 total yards per game. With eight defensive starters back, including linebacker Danny Deere (60 tackles) and defensive back Matt Ofezarzak (4 INTs), the Hornets could make a mad dash to a state championship. . . . Yoe, which figures to be in Caldwell's shadow, needs a big season from new quarterback Brian Scott, an All-District receiver last year. All-State offensive lineman Marius Zarosky (6-2, 240) anchors the Yoe offensive line. . . . Giddings will pitch the ball to RB Dominique Crawford (1,100 yards, 16 TDs). . . . Under second-year Coach Robbie Clark, Rockdale hopes to return to the playoffs behind Marek and WR Casey Lane (24 catches, 380 yards). . . . One of the most versatile players in the region is Hutto QB/FS Jeremy Kerley, who combined for 630 yards passing with 6 INTs as a defender to earn district MVP honors.

Don't know where the people are getting their information but La Grange was 2-8 last year. They beat Gonzalez and Smithville.

They're idiots when it comes to smaller schools!! Plus, how could they not pick 4A Pflugerville Connally to be in their Centex Top 10!!! They went the deepest of all the teams (5th round) in the Austin area and they return alot of their team from last year and they don't EVEN make the Top 10!!! Their HS football section hasn't been the same since George Breazeale retired or semi-retired. He still writes a weekly column in the AAS. I wouldn't put too much stock in their picks!!!

understandable. yall had a great program last year turned everything around. But Caldwell had a great season too. Honestly in my opinion we cant base it on how you guys or caldwell did last year, it will all be played on the field and then we will know for sure.

best of luck to all 19-3a this season!

GO HORNETS BEAT THOSE BRAHMAS!!
