How good was Hempstead? What were the stats for the game? I think Newton will beat B.C. but it won't be 30-0. It will be closer to 21-14. Newton's defense is going to be tough this year, and could be the deciding factor.

If BC has same skill players from last year i think the game will be close.Didnt get to see them at thier best against sinton, but i think the wet ground help out a little in shutting out bc last year. When is this game. Sinton has an open date on oct. 4th and i'm looking for a game in 3a to goto.

I don't remember the exact stats on the game, but I think that Newton held them to somewhere around 135 yards of total offense and Newton had 400 +. Newton's sophmore back, Stiffon Ethridge, ran for 175 yards on 8 carries, and Ty Hopkins ran for 105 yards. Hempstead wasn't as horrible as Newton made them look. They had a lot of size and a little speed but not as much speed as Newton.

Not to take anything away from Newton but Hempstead has not had much success the past 2 years. Last year La Grange beat them 49-6 with the second team in most of the 2nd half. I think we will get a better feeling for how good Newton is after the B. C. and of course the Jasper games. Newton was impressive last season and lost a tight game to an excellent Giddings team. They should go deep in the playoffs baring injuries of course.

Looks like Hempstead had 8 turnovers. Hard to compete if you cant hold on to the ball. Dont know if any of them led to any points, but it sure kept them from having a chance to score. Newton must have a tough defense if they caused the turnovers.

To 3A Roy: Can you give us the low-down on this school called "Alphanso", that Newton plays this week? That sound like the name of someone's great Uncle!

I have been told that Alphonso is an inner-city charter school in Houston. This is their first year of Varsity football. Other than that, I know nothing. They should have some athletes though.

Alphonsa is also playing Burkeville. Does anybody know anything else about them? Jasper's off week is Sept.20, Hmmm guess I'll go to the Newton-B.C. game. This should be a good test for both teams. Did Newton win big last year?

Thanks for the info Roy and Mojjo, Alphonso, will be able to tell the difference between Burkeville and Newton. right? As you know, across America those Charter schools are congregating a lot of athletes into one school program, from a large geographic area. That strategy has not been so apparent in Texas; thusfar. In Louisiana the private schools pretty much get all the top athletes and workover the public schools. They also get Coaches that were All-Americans that have other type College degrees, other than P. E.

I never thought I would see a guy from Newton talk so much smack. Save it for the field, #6. It's pretty bad when you offend someone from your own town like Duckbutter.

Let's wait until a little later in the season to talk trash. If we beat Jasper then you can talk trash all you want because you will have proven yourself against a quality team. Until then keep it on the field and prove how good you really are.

Regarding the post a few up:

Please don't think all the Newton fans are "over spoken". As with anything a few loud voices can make a lotta noise but usually litte action.

Yes, Newton is a quality team, but there are other quality teams with good kids out there as well.
