From the Tyler Morning Telegraph:

Palestine adapted well to life without Adrian Peterson last season, advancing to the state semifinals in its Class 3A debut.

The Wildcats begin Year 2 of post-Peterson on Friday minus many who helped in the recovery process, but still figure into the playoff hunt.

With two starters returning on each side of the ball, the Wildcats are ranked No. 4 in the Tyler Courier-Times-Telegraph 3A preseason poll. Texas High in 4A and Elkhart in 2A-1A-TAPPS join them at No. 4.

Led by second-year head coach Glen Tunstall, Palestine enters the season fresh off an 11-3 record and appearance in the 3A Division I semifinals, where it fell 27-17 to Cuero.

Among those lost to graduation were five all-state players, led by first team linebacker Ronald Brown, honorable mention running back Cameron Jones and honorable mention quarterback Fred Williams.

But one player from the honorable mention list does return - receiver Leon Mickens - who figures to help steer the Wildcat offense into the direction in which it scored 35.3 points in four playoff games last season. Mickens, a senior, caught 35 passes for 768 yards and 11 touchdowns last season.

Fellow senior Trevlyn Reed, who rushed for 287 yards and six touchdowns, will start at running back.
