Bay City vs El Campo - played 82 times in 91 years, starting in 1912.

I'll have to do some checking, but I know the Abilene High - San Angelo Central rivalry goes back a LONG time.

I figured Longview and Marshall was one of them.

I was going to say El Campo/Bay City (this rivalry is as hot as ever, last year there was a fight when I was at the game, going again this year during our off-week)...

It's cool to see Cuero and Yoakum up there... it's been more of a 'friendly' rivalry here in the past, but we still get after each other...

The Marshall Vs. Longview rivalry is one of the longest running series in the state of Texas' storied football history. While it may not be the oldest in the state, it would be hard to discount the fact that it's been the most competitive of the oldest.

The 2005 version of the game e will mark the 95th "historically recognized" battle between the two ancient rivals. We say "historically recognized" because history shows that the two neighboring cities have been going at it since the 1880's. However, due to unreliable and incomplete records, the series is officially recognized as starting in 1909. Starting the series in 1909 actually could eliminate as many as some 20+ games played before then.

During the 1880's, it was a series dominated by Marshall. But it was more than just a football game. It was a game about the identities of two small communities in the piney woods of East Texas. It was a game about township pride. It was a game that was becoming part of the births of two thriving communities. It was a game that was part of family life.... often played on Thanksgiving Day. Even then, in the small townships of Longview and Marshall... large crowds were showing up to cheer on their local boys. Even on some bitterly cold, often snow-ridden Thanksgiving clashes. The series continued thru the turn of the century. Longview and Marshall grew into thriving communities. Marshall's economy was built around the railroad and education, while Longview would become part of the oil boom. The games continued through the turn of the century, the roaring twenties, the bust of the 30's. It was a part of the rise of the American Family in the 50's and continued to grow for another half century to usher in yet another century in 2000. It's difficult to deny the appeal of this game's history.

There have been battles for district titles, battles for final playoff spots, battles to stay out of last place. It hasn't really mattered. It had become a game that transcended the circumstances surrounding it. It could be a game between two top ten teams that were both 9-0 entering the season finale..... or both could be 0-9. You could count on intensity, pride, and team spirit. Sellouts were pretty much a given fact of the game. It was Longview Vs. Marshall.....that was all that needed to be said.

there was a pretty good write-up in the San Patricio County news about the Sinton / Taft rivalry. Taft is now 2A but the rivalry goes back to 1921. the series is 48-21-4 in Sinton's favor, and 11-3-1 since 1990. Sinton has won 23 shut-outs and Taft has had 16. highest scoring games were 1934-taft 80-sinton 0 and 1970-sinton73, taft 0
lowest score was 1921 taft 1-sinton 0

total points
sinton-1643
taft-923

my personal favorite rivalry was the Refugio-Sinton. but they stopped playing that annual game a few years back :(
