first of all, if you have a photo that is NOT taken off the web, you'll need to host it via "image shack" or some other free hosting website. that's another lesson. this is to show you how to post a photo you found on a website.

1. go to the website where the photo is located.
2. right mouse click the photo you'd like to post
3. then left click on "properties"

http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/3581/0015ot.jpg

up will pop the "Properties" box

4. highlight the file location (url)
5. right click and copy

http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/3833/0022yd.jpg

http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/9909/0034yx.jpg

5. now open up the 3A Down Low and either start a new thread or reply to an existing thread.
click on the "IMG" button.

up will pop a box

6. right click in the data entry area of the box and left click "paste"
7. then click "OK"

http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/2377/0040ue.jpg

it should look similar to the screen shot below.
8. once that is done, add any witty comments to the post and click "submit"

that's all there is to it. i apologize if i left out a step. just PM me if i did. :D

i hope this helps.

Thank you Pirate44. I am sure maybe with a little practice I will get it down. I haven't quite got it yet but that is no fault of your instructions of course but rather the student. :)

Very good instructions....one thing to remember though. Not all sites will let you link directly to them like that.

If that happens, you need to have an image posting site you can use. I know lots of people on here use Imageshack...I always use Photobucket.com (http://Photobucket.com) . These sites are useful to upload pics from your computer also!

Oops....now I see that Pirate44 had already addressed what I just said.

I don't know how I missed that in the first part of his post.

Seriously.. I am printing your post and keeping it for future reference! I do have a question.. when you click on the IMG - it has htpp:// - do you paste AFTER the "htpp://" or override it?

you can overide it by pasting over it.

Phil, the IMG button is on 3A Downlow. Next time you click on "reply" to a thread, stop and look directly above the text box. You will see option buttons for all sorts of things, just like the emoticon (smilies) box on the left. IF you have "Enhanced Mode" checked in the box on the far left (above the emoticons), the buttons will work directly within the text box. If you have "Normal Mode" checked, you will see the option buttons, but they won't operate the same way. You will get "pop-up" boxes instead.

I'm not sure that I understand the difference between normal and enhanced mode. They look the same to me, unless I am just missing something....

I have helped folks do this for a long time and could never explain it near as well as you have. Kudos!

In the "Normal" mode, you get a pop-up box that you put the info into, and it inserts it into the text box when you hit ok. In the enhanced mode, it just puts the bracketed symbols directly in the text box.

That means when you want to post a pic, you click on IMG and it automatically types in for you. You then paste in the address and hit "Close tags" and it types in for you.

Okay, this is a test of the emergency broadcasting (I mean photo posting) system.

http://www.texassports.com/image_lib/sb_team_081905_400.jpg

I did this in enhanced rather than the normal mode I usually use. I didn't see the "close tags" option and it seems like I did basically the same thing as always.
I probably shouldn't try to understand the difference (or fix what isn't broken).

Thanks '66 for trying to get a technologically challenged poster up to speed.:D

One other tid-bit of info. You don't have to waste a post or a Topic to see if you are successfully uploaded. Press Preview Reply, and you can see if it's going to look like you want it to. There's no need for Sig test posts.I can't tell you how many wasted posts have been placed just to see if a pic or a sig came through.

You can throw a sig in a post to test it.
