The friendliest stretch of Texas highway is on highway 181 between Sinton and Skidmore. You can always tell who's not a local because they are the ones who don't pull over. I love driving this route.

The worst stretch of Texas highway(IMO) is on US 281 between San Antonio and Marble Falls. Several times I have had folks who were driving 55 suddenly speed up to 65 when you try to pass them on the passing hill.

What's the friendliest place to drive through in your opinion? Any response is welcome.:)

The sweetest drive to me is the one that always leads me home!

Highway 77 in between Cuero and La Grange...

I've always liked that route, would rather go that way to Austin (which is 30 minutes out of the way) than 183 to Austin... just more friendly to me...

But now that gas is so high, I'd rather deal with the -holes than spend that extra cash...

Highway 80 from Kenedy to Lulling is not bad. It is very scenic and is a nice alternative to I35 when travelling to Austin.

best stretch is between Odem and Sinton. a guy in a car with a Cuero window sticker gave me a "you're #1" sign. what a nice guy.

I like 77 all the way from Refugio to say.....La Grange, and beyond...but i ALSO like the drive to Garner State Park/Concan...i go ALL backroads...none of that San Antonio crap....i go TOWARDS S.A. then exit at the Campbellton exit and shoot across that way.

The Campbelton exit is around exit 87. You must be thinking about the Pleasanton exit.
That would be the mile marker 104 exit coming from Corpus Christi! :D

281 from Lampassas to Hamilton.

Worst stretch?

That is easy... US380 from Bridgeport to Denton, followed closely by TX 114 from Bridgeport to Rhome. If you have never been on it you wouldn't believe it. Seriously.

Before 1974, the hands-down winner would HAD to have been TX-21 and US-77 between College Station and LaGrange. ;)

i like the drive on FM 136 from refugio to gregory...its scenic of the copano bay and lots of nice wetlands perfect for bird watching and fishing on the side of the road. its also a 70 mph speed limit, so zoom zoom for me! :)

bad drive is on US 59 from sugar land to the beginning of wharton county. the road is meant to be a freeway, but the roads are in bad shape and the speed limit is 60 mph. up near sugar land, the freeways are being ripped up and expanded due to development in the riverpark subdivision near the brazos river. construction got so bad, it took me roughly 45 mins to travel 3 miles...and i wasnt even in houston and i was headed AWAY from htown!!

The best drive for me would be 183 from dripping springs to san marcos. Very nice.

The worst would be hwy 87 from Sabine Pass to High Island. It's been more like a trail for the last 15 years because of hurricans.

IMO, the friendliest stretch is Hwy 70 between Dickens & Matador. Every driver you pass does the steering wheel "wave". :)
