after work i drove home about 30 miles going 55mph. it was good to know i was saving gas and hopefully i'll see the difference at the end of the week. but talk about embarrasing. old people driving Rascals, were passing me. and im sure people were cursing me when the highway narrowed to 1 lane betweem Odem and Sinton when they werent able to pass. but i feel good though.

Seemed like you could run that fast, didn't it? :D Similarly, I'm making a conscious effort to only drive the speed limit now. ;)

Interesting... Did you know the maximum fuel economy for my truck is between 65 and 70? Seriously. I have the built in computer on my silverado and consistently, the most efficient speed for highway driving is 'tween 65 and 70... (5.3 w 3.42re)

I wonder where you can go to find the most efficient driving speeds for various cars?

Fuel is so bad that I had to get rid of my beloved truck(2500 HD crew). Now I am driving a Hyundai Elantra. Now, I don't like the car, but love the 33 mpg that I get instead of the 12-15 mpg.

no way. it was definately not a rock n roll drive. i had to keep Sinatra's "Nice and Easy" cd playing.

We did a test with the Durango...we drive 60-65 (instead or 70 and up) mph and it boosted our mpg up. I actually got 19.5 mpg one day. That was much better than the 15-16 we were getting. We now usually get around 17 with in town and highway.

Gas just went up to $2.69 and $2.79.

Members First? that's my bank here in the valley, the only one and it's in Harlingen.

Pretty soon, when the Winter Texans get here, they too will be flipping us off.

Since gas is so expensive we have to bank cheap, ya know? ;)BTW, Members First was known as Telco Credit Union 'back in the day', does anyone know what it was originally called? I wonder if Phil knows this?:D

It's been Telco for a while, as long as I can remember it, people at my work told me to go there, that was in 1991. I have tried IBC, Wells Fargo recently, and ended coming back to Member's First Credit Union. Nothing like old fashion banking, where they know your account number and it's pulled up, before you can even give them your name or account number. :)

We had a pick up that we had ordered. The day it came in my husband made a trip from LG to OK...that pick up was "broke in" going 70 mph. That is where it ran the best and got the best gas mileage.

If you ain't pullin a trailer all the time get you full size truck with a v6. Great gas mileage.

I drove 55 from here to Leander on the way to the office yesterday. The rest of the cars were doing the same. Even when I got to the 183 freeway & Mopac, doing 58, there were only 2 or 3 cars flying past at the 65 speed limit.

21 mpg in my 1500 crew cab. Unless it is really hilly or we are pulling the RV.

I can't complain a bit about that!

I believe you there sly. I once drove my truck to Austin to a conference and had my family with me. We stopped and drove around in San Marcus to see Wonder Cave or whatever it is called now then to Austin. Some driving around in Austin as we stayed overnight. Then after the conference we drove around in Seguin to the park. Then in Beeville to eat. The on to Sinton where I filled up. So a tank got me there and back and my mileage was about 22mpg and would probably have been much better if not for all the in town driving around I did. On the road I set it about 70 on the cruise control. I get good mileage on the road but in town where you stop and go it is a killer which was the same even when I had a four cylider vehicle.

For the most part, I've been driving 55 the last couple of weeks. I make several short trips each week, so I really wasn't able to determine if I was making a difference. (Mainly because hubby needed to change the oil! ) I normally avg around 22-24 mpg, which isn't too bad.

This past weekend, we drove to West Texas at 55 the whole way. We usually get 24 mpg on this trip driving the speed limit of 65-70. Driving 55, we actually got 28.87 mpg. On the way home, we drove 60 and the avg dropped to 26.63 or something like that. The only drawback was that the trip up took an hour longer than normal, but considering we saved about $12, I'd say it was worth it.

I drive a 2500 Dodge with a Cummins Turbo Diesel, and get 20 mpg back and forth to Rockdale, and 21 mpg on the highway. It doesn't have a chip in it, but it gets its best gas mileage going about 67 mph.

I am afraid that a lot of people will be drving 55 before all this gas buisness is over .My dodge truck gets about 2 to 3 miles per gallion more when I drive 55 to 60 instead of 70 .

Well, it seems obvious that it would get better gas mileage turning lower RPMs, but I don't like to go that slow....:D
