I thought is might be fun to project a look into the future in assorted sports. I decided to highlight the SB team of the Shepherd Lady Pirates today.
Shepherd surprised a touted Barbers Hill team this year and proved that they could come from basically nowhere an play above the local District level. Shepherd graduated three Seniors and now has four seasoned Seniors ready for this season-- Stephanie Brawley, Samantha Cummings, Sara Herrod, and Erin Worley.
Coach Meng has a group of excellent athletes but few have participated in year round SB of any level. Samantha Cummings their Senior Pitcher looks like a probable college scholarship recipient. She is a strong batter and also an emerging college-potential Pitcher.
Shepherd has not been a strong athletic program overall but with folks like Coach Shane Hanks now in the administration level and a host of caring teachers and Coaches like Brian Anderson, Carol Allen and others, they will just get better.
Folks please take time to post info on various schools and their overall programming that typically do not get covered on 3A DL. Thank you

thanks for info, Cardinal. I'd be interested also in getting info as you discussed.
Softball is my big love, as apparently it is with you, but I'm getting into volleyball right now. Bellville ranked third in state. Bellville's big hitter, Kaitlyn Inglish has committed to Memphis (state). They should have legitimate shot at state title.
I plan to also watch some of that other sport that goes on in the fall (football). Bellville, although ranked only 24th in state, will be a solid playoff team by the end of season. They didn't look bad in this past saturday's scrimmage against Brenham, which is a highly regarded 4A team.

Tell us all about Bellville SB for next year?

I enjoy volleyball also. Bridge City somewhat held their own with Barbers Hill who is ranked # 2 by the Coaches, the last time I looked. They beat a good 4A Vidor team this week and lost to an excellent select team laden 4A Nederland team last week. They have four Sophomores that are going to make noise in the future.
That Bellville SB team got little recognition last year before the playoffs but seem to really step it up in the playoffs! Please share some details with us on the upcoming team.
If anyone would like to share projections about their HS SB team for next season this is a golden opportunity.

I predict that once again Bridge City will be at the top half of the state polls and Old Card will even go so far as to say that they are the best team in state. All the girls from BC will get "full rides" to major universities and that early in the playoffs the Cardinalettes will be "upset" by a team from the Czech belt. Though saddened by their defeat, the girls will regroup and form a summer team comprised of girls from all over the golden triangle and win some world series that no one has ever heard about.

there ya have it.

Thanks Old Cardinal for the kind words about Shepherd. We are already excited about the upcoming season and can't believe we have to wait it out through Volleyball and Basketball..;)

xman...you make yourself look really small when you make posts like that..

I love that Old Cardinal took the time to highlight our little school that did so well and made the playoffs for the first time. He did his research and brought positive attention to some girls that work hard and will never read their name in the paper..(as we don't have one).
I thought that was what 3A DL was all about??? A place that we could come to and talk about our kids in a positive light..not harass old guys that take the time to brag on his AND everybody else's kids in a positive way...
Shame on you!:(

Sad that you will attack kids to try to be cute. Personally I am proud of your Coach Randy Ragsdale and all the SB girls at WO-S that play for the HS and also the Orange Crush and other select teams. Randy Ragsdale is a class act; he spends his free time all summer Coaching a select 12 & U team in which many of the girls will be playing against his HS team in a few years. Now that is sportsmanship exhibited at its best!
Sad that you are so uninformed that you would call the American Softball Association 18 & U National Championship an-- unknown. By the way the Orange Crush did pretty well in the Beaumont Tournament play this summer...I guess that you and WOS 1 will always be bitter because WOS is continuing to plunge in enrollment toward 2A status. Sad that you folks are so bitter that kids choose to go to Deweyville, OF, Vidor, LC-M to get what they and their parents preceive is a better education. Have you noticed through the years that it is not only anglo youth but hispanics, oriental, and black youth that are making these choices in ever increasing numbers. I really hope that you can quite blaming others for your overall demise. There is still time to support your local law enforcement and clean up some major problem areas. I have a lot of respect for many of the Mustang folks in the area.
It's the ones that continue to blame others that have lost the respect of most all of Orange County. Attack adults please--just don't attack youth.

I agree Phil.
OC sometimes seems biased toward his area of state, but we all are.
I need to get together with you over a beer (or cup of coffee), OC, and talk sports.

Here comes my bellville softball information, OC. I assume it will still be same at beginning of season next spring.

The coach resigned after last season to devote full time to his assistant principal duties and also have time to coach his kids' teams. It originally was going to be a one year thing as high school coach back in 2003, but he spent three seasons as softball coach/asst principal and did a good job.
We were pretty young team in 2005 as were a number of other good teams in state.
Playoff starting lineup for us was 1 senior, 3 juniors, 2 sophs and 3 freshmen. The eight returning starters will probably be starting again and the graduating senior's spot will most likely be taken by an incoming freshman. We do have a new coach, though, that moved over from Navasota and I'll leave all the decisions to her. I'm sure she'll do a good job.
Pitching was solid last year. Defense for the most part was solid. Hitting was a little inconsistent all year, but usually was timely. We hit a stretch in district where our defense struggled along with hitting and we lost two straight before righting the ship and winning district for the third yr in row. Defense kind of let us down in playoffs against La Grange also, particularly in the third game, which we lost 8-4.
Two primary pitchers return as juniors. Entire infield and catcher return, along with two outfielders.
Only starter not returning was outfielder.
Pitching and defense should again be much better than average, but key for us in 2006, in my opinion, is hitting more consistently. Our team batting average from 2004 to 2005 dropped almost 70 pts (.310 to .240)

Thanks for the very informative post. I would say that your team is one of the teams across
Region III that could end up our representative to the State Tournament.

OC, I have no clue what you are talking about. I didnt bash anyone. You asked for my prediction and I gave it and I dont have anything to do with WOS. Also, I am beginning to suspect that you are a "young cardinal" from your grammatical errors.

So are you prepping us for when Rockdale beats la grange in district next spring, hook?
Just kidding. You are probably right. I understand Rockdale has almost everyone back and Van has their awesome pitcher back. Don't give up on your la grange team though, either. Bellville softball coach predicted "before" the La Grange vs Bellville series last May that whoever won that series would win state. He was correct.

You claim that you have nothing to do with WOS but in your other thread entitled "West Orange Stark" , you question the board as to "how much are you going to pile on us this year?" Don't emabarrass the classy posters from WOS with this charade.

I will not be pulling for Rockdale to beat LG, I'am just predicting who I think has the best shot at the State Championship. La Grange lost 4 Key Seniors who really came through in the playoffs, We will just have to wait and see if the current group of Seniors can step up and become leaders. Last years Seniors proved to have those qualilties. When you are in the playoffs leadership is a must. Rockdale in my opinion has the team to beat and their SS leads by example, their Pitchers are as good as any in 3 A. We got hot at the right time last year and just started steamrolling. It's not how you arrive, it' how you finish. LG Finished. State Champs.

As Jim Rome would say, you've got scoreboard!

Hope it's a good high school year with no injuries for anybody in any sport.
My daughter is senior and I'm hoping it's best year ever for her, also.

Yes, daughter plays v-ball defensive specialist/libero. Was banged up in car wreck few weeks back and hasn't been on court yet though. Hopefully next week. Should get released from doctor today actually.
Point guard in basket ball. Shortstop/leadoff in softball.
Don't know what I'll do with spare time when she goes off to college.

To BTEXDAD: It looks like this Xperson is schizophrenic and/or bipolar--he is sending all of this stuff out under member # 3527(same computer). See the previous-post trail.
It's got to be an adult: youth understand computers a little better than that. LOL
