VWG

How many teams have really tough non-dist. schedules this year?

I know Midland Greenwood plays Sweetwater, and I think they get 4A Andrews and maybe Snyder???

Graham has 4A NRH Birdville, Decatur, Abilene Wylie, and Marlin.

Cuero's non-district schedule is:
West Oso
LaGrange
Wharton
Sealy
Sinton
Wharton and Sinton are highly ranked teams, and Sealy always gives Cuero a good game. I think it's a well seasoned schedule.

WOS, I agree with you. That is one tough non-district schedule.

The problem is alot of teams in this area didn't want to play us when the schedules were made. We just hope we can get out of that schedule with no injuries! Looking forward to seeing you guys on the WOS side at the Bay City game!

Sinton has:

Taft
Orange Grove
West Oso (?)
Beeville
Gregory Portland
Cuero

i think ours is sorta easy, except for the GP and Cuero games... but thats my opinion.

I disagree because I think ours is the toughest in the State!

1. First we play Taft and they always play their best games against us. You can throw out the record books when these long time rivals play. Taft should make a move to be a power in 2A especially since they have a new dynamic coach this year. Plus the game is in Taft this year. That increases the risk.

2. Then Gregory-Portland a 4A powerhouse that did very well in the playoffs last year.

3. West Oso at West Oso. West Oso is always a good playoff team. Remember as I said before "Beware of the Howling Bear."

4. Beeville with former Mathis Coach Sosa. He will have them improved and ready to make a move in 4A this year. The game is in Beeville too. :(

5. Cuero who barely lost State last year and now has Cooper back. No more comments necessary.

6. Orange Grove who is always a good playoff team. They aren't always big but they play with a lot of heart and determination. Plus they are playing us at our homecoming and they will be determined to spoil the party.

I could get into the tough district matches and then about how we are probably the smallest Division 1 school in the playoffs every year playing schools that have 200 to 300 more students than us (Heck Everman had almost 300 more than us when we played them for State) but I will wait and comment on that later since this thread is about our non district regular season schedule which can be summed up in one word: Brutal!!

No way. Port Isabel does Raymondville one better.

Week 0 - Los Fresnos (32-5A with a LOT of returning starters)
Week 1 - PSJA Memorial (32-4A, and expected to do well this year)
Week 3 - Falfurrias (They're normally a very good team, just had a down year last year)

Here's Sweetwater's :

Lubbock Cooper
San Angelo Lakeview(4A)
Midland Greenwood
Andrews (4A)
Pecos
Levelland

All but one of these teams made the playoffs last year. So, while it may not be the toughest pre-districi schedule in the state, it aint too shabby neither.;)

I'd be impressed if Raymondville played someone from 31-4A, like Calallen, GP, Rockport, Kingsville, or Tuloso-Midway. I'd even be MORE impressed if Raymondville played a 5A team like Port Isabel does.

The only reason PI is playing a 5A is because of tradition and from what I hear LF has no intentions of continuing playing PI...its not like PI purposely looks for 5A's to play year in and year out.

Iowa Park has a tough one:

Mineral Wells (4A)
Burkburnette (4A)
Childress
WFHS (4A)
Gainesville
Wimberly

Old Cardinal
08-08-2005, 03:19 PM
Bridge City plays: Liberty, Jasper, Kirbyville, Silsbee and Little Cypress-Mauriceville.
Last year Silsbee was the toughest team we played. With a little offensive and defensive line you just hope to come out of preseason with few season-ending injuries. I appears that Engineers, Professional and Technical people just don't spawn big ole linemen LOL. It seems to happen to BC each year that small size players are a factor in football LOL.

Iowa Park's schedule is pretty tough

4A Mineral Wells
4A Burkburnett
3A Wimberly ( top 15 )
2A Childress
4A Wichita Falls High ( top 15 )
3A Gainesville ( top 2 )

Since people are inculding scrimmages I know that Wylie scrimmages Brownwood every year. They usually do a "combined practice" in one town and then scrimmage in another town. I heard from one of the kids on the freshman team today that they (the freshman and JV) will be scrimmaging Southlake. I am trying to double check this but that is definitely interesting to say the least. I wonder if the varsitys would scrimmage???

Just enough tough teams( Cuero and GP possibly Beeville) to show how much better they need to get but not so many that they get pounded on week in and week out.
