help me decide where to stay. I will post both our price (3 days, 2 nights) and casino name. We aren't going until the 1st of September but are needing to book it ASAP. As a point of reference 3 of the 4 of us going will probably play poker at least once a day so feel free to input your thoughts on the best places to play. The other thing we want is a place with a good pool or set of pools.

One you don't have posted that we stayed in was the Monte Carlo.

Amazing.

I've never been to Vegas, but I voted for you to stay at the Bellagio...

Going by the other choices, you're already spending a lot, might as well stay at the most expensive one... I'm sure it is priced that way for a reason...

I voted for the Mirage because it is closer to the center of the strip. I went a couple of months ago and had a ball. I was so busy checking out the strip I barely had time to gamble. I felt that if I was closer to the middle then it would have been a little nicer.

P.S. when you leave the airport tell the cabbie to take Paradise. Otherwise the cabbie will take the tunnel to the freeway which is twice as far and cost twice as much. 5 minute cab ride cost me $25 bucks. Paradise route will cost about $13.

I would stay at either Caesar's Palace or the Mirage. Caesar's has a large shopping area plus alot of places to eat inside. Either one of these two would be just fine and they are both in the heart of The Strip. Treasure Island might be cheaper. Have you checked out Harrah's. It's across the street from the Mirage. Make sure that one night you go downtown to the Fremont Street experience. See the laser light show. Plus,it's a cheaper down there and they try to entice everyone with FREE offers,to get them off of The Strip. Good luck.

Those rates include our cab ride to and from the airport. I saw something about that on the Travel Channel though. They really do try and hose those who don't know any better.

and buy the shuttle pass to and fo the airport it is worth it. SOme of the cabbies will screw you big time. And on the other side of the interstate from MGM is In & Out Burger. Best an cheapest fastfood burger you will ever eat.

I always love places that have a tropical theme. But definately the Belagio has great ambience with all the sites there. That roof will take your breath away!

It depends on why you are going to Vegas and what you are looking to do. If your going to party, without a doubt stay at Mandalay Bay. Some of the better bars and clubs in Vegas are there. The Rum Jungle is awesome. Its downfall is it is at the end of the strip but with the new monorail it's not so bad.

If you are going to feel like a high roller, stay at the Bellagio. You won't be able to gamble there though unless you are made of money. They cater to the high rollers and finding a table less than $25 a hand, especially on Labor Day Weekend, will be impossible. Even if you dont stay there, walk through it. Its something to see.

If you are looking to gamble and want some reasonable tables at your hotel, Mirage and Treasure Island are where you should be. They are both centrally located in the strip as well and within easy walking distance to many of the big name hotels like Bellagio, Caesars, Harrahs & Ballys.

No reason to stay at MGM. I thought it was one of the more dull hotels I went to in Vegas.

We've always had a good time at Mirage and Treasure Island. We've never stayed downtown, but next time, which I hope is Christmas for our 30th anniversary, we'll probably stay downtown at Golden Nuggett. I think you'd be happy at any of the ones you listed.. Enjoy :)

DANG!! Has it been so long since I went that the prices have gone up that much or is it because I stayed downtown?

We stayed at the Fitzgerald....it was nothing spectacular but all we did was sleep for about 4 hours there the 3 days we were gone, so as long as it had a bed, I was happy!

We spent one day on the strip, and I didn't win a thing...all the money I won, I won downtown!

We are taking Wu for his 21st birthday actually!!! He isn't THAT lucky...cuz everything he learned about poker he has learned from me! I am the poker (and NCAA '05 AND '06 expert) in our house so he comes to me when he wants advice in those catagories. Actually, our prices our about $200 better than we could have gotten through Expedia or anybody else. That rate is including round-trip airfare and 2 nights hotel and all things considered I think it is a pretty good deal.

ive stayed at bellagio, mandalay bay, and treaasure island. all 3 are great places. both MB and Bellagio have added a tower since i was there last. TI has totally redone since i was there. if you can get a tower suite (which during slow season can be gotten using the $20 trick) id go with TI. Bellagio is easy to get a lakeview upgrade by telling them it is your anniversary. (by the way, the same trick can be done at TI and you get a bottle of champagne). mandalay bay is a great room, but its a waste unless your there when you can use there pool area. if youre going during the warm season, thats the place to go. TI's pool is nonexistant. Bellagios is nice and very classy and they keep one pool warm during the winter. for the priecs you listed, with a standard room in summer id go with MB, Bellagio, then TI. in the winter, id go with bellagio, TI (hoping to get that suite) then MB. let me know if you want any photos of the rooms and ill see what i got. as for MGM and Mirage, my parents have stayed there and sayed they werent all that hot. ive done a bit of gambling at each and they are better than the other 3. i always came away with alot of cash at MGM and Mirage.

ok, ive gone back to read your post lol. sept. definately mandalay bay. you can spend all day by the pool (lazy river, sandy wave beach and a few regular pools.) when you run out of money gambling. you could get better deals if you sign up for email discounts, but its too late for that. i think you might find better rates through their website and combining it with southwest airlines flights.these days with the monorails connecting these places plus the new casinos along the way, being mid-strip is really not important.

This July was my 14th trip to LV. I'll be going back in Feb. I've stayed at the expensive and I've stayed at the cheap. And believe me, they're all the same. You'll get a better night sleep in the expensive and have better 'luck' gaming at the cheap. I've won at the Plaza and California downtown. On the Strip, i've won at the Westward Ho ($5700), Circus and the New Frontier. Hope that helps?

I think you could find alot better rates by using southwest airlines or one of the travel sites. I,ve stayed at TI and New York on the strip, we now stay at the Fitz dowtown . We go to las vegas to gamble for three or four days and only sleep for 3-4 hours a day so the room isn't really used a whole lot. I,ve won on the strip some but most of my winnings has come off the downtown or at the Hilton or the Rio. If you gamble alot try getting a players card where every you go and use it. You well be surprized by the comps. you can use next time you go-if you go once or twice a year as we do.

Yeah when I tried to book this stuff through Expedia, those rates were about 450-500 per person. I tried a lot of other sites and the rates just kept going up. I finally stumbled up on swavacations.com and since the 3rd guy going with us is in Lubbock we can fly southwest directly to Vegas. I also signed up for their e-mail list and they sent me a promo code that takes an additional 10% off the next trip that we book through them. Mandalay Bay was the initial plan because they actually run some poker tables that I can afford to play for a while (2/4 $200 max, 5/10 $500 max) so that will also provide for a more enjoyable experience. I'm not sure if we will go to any shows this time as we are going back for a week in January thanks to my roommate buying himself a timeshare there...so no room costs = I can afford a few $100/show shows. I think we are going to book it today so I will see where we end up landing at...

Good luck and i know you will have a great time, i'll be their for 4-5 days superbowl weekend. I know their a 5-10 dollar tables downtown as i play a lot of three card poker. Have fun and remember us stuck back hear on the low.

Hey my husband and I go there twice a year, His grandmother lives there. If those are the only places to stay that you looked out then I would definetly go MGM, beautiful hotel, close to the strip, you can easily walk to NY NY, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur, awesome breakfast buffet. Although you might want to check out NY NY it's where we plan on staying for a night or two next time we go!!! YOU have to have dinner at the Top of the World resturaunt, though, it will complete your vegas experience. So save an extra 500 for the experience!!!!

 Nice! Maybe you should have been the travel agent. I've never stayed at MB, but it is too far away for my liking. The MGM is in a great location. You have alot of feedback, good luck making a decision! :D

My advice... Stay at the Paris. You are close to Ceasers, Bellagio, Sands... and all the rest on the strip.

Treasure Island was a beating.

Paris was very nice and has a tunnel with a short walk to Bally's where you can gamble and make some dough.

Then, at night go up the Eiffel tower replica and watch the water show at Bellagio.

Gotta shop at the Forum in Caesers.

CRAPS. CRAPS. CRAPS.

Ceaser's is great. Gotta like the phones in the toilets!!
I would stay at the MGM. Right in the heart of the strip.
The best sports book is at Mandaly Bay though. It's great to kick back and watch games.

I'm with Splybear.... throw them bones!!!!!!!

my dream job.:D (but only if it is for Vegas)

one hotel that isnt getting mention here is Hard Rock. its a small casino, but nice pool area and great for people watching. try to score a celebrity suite. Caesars is great, but dont let em put you in the Roman tower. they are nice rooms, but half the tower is blocked by the centurion tower. try to get the palace tower or even the forum tower. they also just opened a new tower. havent been able to see that one. dont forget the $20 trick. slip the person registering you a folded $20 under your id or credit card. have it where they can see it but not where everyone else sees it. tell him/her its a special trip (anniversary, birthday) and politely ask if there are any ungrades available. the worse that can happen is they say no. more times than not, you will get a suite, or upgrade in room. also get in nicest persons line.

depending on the date you can count me in as well. I am always up for a trip to Vegas for if nothing else than to get outside of my "home game" (if you can call 50+ person tourneys that) here in Abilene.

since they were bought by Harrahs, i think they dropped the "Horshoe" name and are now calling it "Binion's". it used to be great gambling, but since Becky Binion took over a few years back, the place has stunk. she really ran it into the ground. hopefully Harrahs will restore it to its past glory.

I am planning to go play their 2AM tournament on Saturday morning before we fly out at 9:30 or something along those lines. I just wanted to go down and see the place even if it has kinda dropped off the map lately. That or at least get over to the Nugget because I have heard a lot of good things about that place since the new owners took over a few years back. Does anybody else remember that reality show on Fox about them running the Nugget? I thought it was a great show but it only lasted like 12 or so episodes.

the guys who bought it (made their money from selling travelscape.com) sold it already. they never did anything to improve the place. i love staying there and playing there though. just a couple years ago, you could get $39 rooms. and those are 4 star quality too. now theyve jacked up the rates a bit in the past 2 years though.
