Why does she claim Russia as her country when she lives in the USA (I think nearly all her life even though she was born in Russia) and doesn't even seem to have a Russian accent (I am not even sure she can speak Russian)? Bob Hope was born in England and came to USA when he was seven but he never claimed to be an English citizen that I know of and was a great patriot of the USA and entertained the troops for several wars. But all news refers to her as Russian.

she claims to be Russian because she is. alot of athletes/people from other countries live in America. how many golfers from around the world live in Florida?? to name a couple, greg norman and vijay singh, they don't claim to be American's even though they live in America. Same thing with Maria, she was born in Russia, that's why she calls herself a Russian and not American.

I have a friend whose parents were from Scotland - his dad was here on a teaching visa... he told me that as a kid, he had dual citizenship but at 18 had to declare citienship to one country or the other... Don't know if it's the same situation but that's his story...

I am the same way. if i go back to Australia i have citizenship in that country. U.S. doesn't recognize dual citizenship, so therefore i am only American in this country.
