He passed away this April at the age of 67 years and will probably never even be nominated but he was a good defensive back for 11 years in the NFL. He played for the Baltimore Colts starting in 1958 and was in the NFL Championship Game played with the Giants and many call this the greatest game ever played and it started pro football really getting popular. He also played on the Colts' 1959 Championship team. He also played for the Steelers and Redskins before ending his carreer with the New York Jets. He played on the Joe Namath team that surprised everyone and beat the Colts in the third Super Bowl and made a key interception in that game. He retired after the 1969 season. He was called a dirty player but that was probably exaggerated. He was known to talk to offensive receivers to throw them off their concentration. After the Jets won the super bowl Joe Namath and some of the Jets were on the Ed Sullivan Show and Joe had him sing and he was pretty good at singing. After football he worked as a talk show host and played some pro tennis winning some matches. He also worked on getting tennis popular. He was known to get into arguments with coaches, players and owners because he was ahead of his time on speaking up against the racial discrimination in the NFL. Many feel that is why he won't get considered for the Hall of Fame but he was on three Pro football championship teams. He is the arthor of a book called "Confessions of a Dirty Player."
