Just wondering if the teams that win have great athletes, are smaller kids but they work there butts off.

Greenwood always had long football practices and we always practiced extremely hard. We went from around 3:45 to 6:45 or 7

I think the teams that maintain their programs have kids that work just as hard in the offseason as they do when 2-a-days start.

Locally, C.C. Calallen (4A) comes to mind. A couple of years ago they had a team that was nowhere near as talented as their teams of the past five years or so... but they still made it to the State Semifinals.

Those kids just wanted it bad year round and worked towards it year round. Some teams only want it for about 5 or 6 months out of the year and when you square off against teams that have more firepower those 5 or 6 months of hard work just aren't going to pay off.

Other programs with that sort of 'staying power' would include Jasper (the first year they were in 3A they were a BEAST but were slaughtered at the Semis... the very next year they weren't quite as talented but they were more of a team and came within a couple of points of making it to the championship) and Sinton.

That would be a UIL violaition. You are only allowed 8 hrs. per week after the school has ended. If you worked out Mon. thru Wed. for 3 hrs each you would be an hour over the limit.

Well that may be a UIL violation but that didnt stop us. We practiced from 3:45 to 7:30 and sometimes we practiced on Thursdays.

Hard work and dedication pays off in the fourth quarter and in the playoffs so a little overtime does not hurt.
