Just found out that a friend of mine has a cotton ball phobia... that's right - cotton balls... of course she was in denial till another friend stated that she knew someone else like that... so, I googled it and found out that she's not alone... a lot of people have it and as far as I can tell it doesn't have a name yet...

Well my question is - do you have a phobia? If yes, does it have a name?

For me, emetophobia- Fear of vomiting

Really? wow - what did he do? She backed away from me (I was using the cottonball to clean some nail polish off my fingertips) and was like itching all over... she was freaking out... she finally got at an angle so that she couldn't see me handling the cotton...

I was trying to find a name to my phobia of being in a shower....not so much taking a shower, but having the water hit me in the face (which I think stems from almost drowning when I was 13).

Anyway, the site I was referred to was:

"Tips For Personal Hygiene and Bathing"

For me, emetophobia- Fear of vomiting This is just so weird that it borders on being silly. I guess maybe b/c it is not a common phobia??

I have 2 phobias: Claustrophobia & Agoraphobia. I'm sure everyone knows about the first one, but the 2nd one is a bit tricky. I freak out in crowded public places that are indoors. I don't have a problem (obvisously) outdoors (i.e. - football games) but if I'm in a large shopping mall, grocery store, concert, etc. where it is crowded and noisy I'm gonna need a little brown paper bag to breathe into. :D I'm on my own nerves with this phobia!! ;) Although casinos don't seem to phase me!

My immediate boss has an irrational fear of cats.

She almost passes out if someone sends her an email with a cute little kitty on it.

I don't understand it at all, but I saw her "wig out" when we were leaving here one day and there was a cat in the parking lot.

I had to scare it off, drive her car up to the door for her, and stand guard while she got in and drove off!

I would think it was pretty funny if I hadn't witnessed the stark terror in her eyes!

This was my first "episode" my hands and arms started to swell, my face got all blotchey, then the itching started and then I couldn't catch my breath...very scary!! I've always hated the mall and now I have a good excuse to avoid it if at all possible! :D But if I just gotta go then I carry my brown little bag. :)

i havea phobia similar to that of RM, i dont mind water being one my face so much as i cant have my entire head submerged in water. like if im swimming on the top of the water i will sink like a rock because i always try and keep my head out of the water, but if im swimming under the water its better. but i dont last too much longer than i did ontop of it. just for the record, i can swim fom point to point, but unless i have something to hold onto, im not gonna be able to stay in the water. for instance, holding onto a dock or the side of a pool as opposed to treading water w/ no one around. for me its more like dreading water.:p

He's built like the Hulk but becomes a wimp when a new bottle of tylenol still has the cotton in it.

I have a fear of heights and any thing over the third step on a ladder is high.

What is it about the cotton ball that your friend is afraid of?
I don't get it. If I fall I could feel pain or injure myself. But what can a cotton ball do

I'm not sure but I think it's the texture... she doesn't like the feel of it... we were kidding her by saying that it probably started in kindergarten - like glue cotton balls onto paper to make clouds... I think some may have got stuck on her fingers and it just creeps her out now... she did say that her friend from HS has the same phobia but it extends to Q-tips - she doesn't like the noise she hears in her ear...

I don't know if this is what it is or not....but my little sister can't stand the feel or sound of cotton ball when it is rubbed between a thumb and finger.....she just breaks out in cold chills.
