The next few stages are considered critical for Lance. Right now Klodin is leading the peloton so nothing exciting is happening yet. Go Lance Go!

I'm not too worried about Lance. As always, when they get into the mountains and the steep climbs, this is where he usually kicks 'em in the tail.

I agree...in fact, it seems like he is doing better this year than year's past. It seems like he got the yellow jersey alot sooner this year. Regardless, he'll bring it in the mountains. That's where he wins the race.

Lance is still staying with the peloton with his main challengers for the overall title.

There are some escapees but none of them are considered contenders.

Lance and his team are not at the front of the peloton. The escapees are only 4min30ahead of the peloton. There are only 30 miles left in the race. Go Lance Go!!

The escapees are only 3min40sec ahead of the peloton with about 20 miles left. This race will probably not be won by escapees as was the case the last two stages. We will See. Excitement as the stage concludes indeed!

As a note of interest the Stage started 40 minutes late and was moved a few miles away to start because of some protest of wolf attacks by some farmers. It is unfortunate but I don't see how the tour has anything to do with the wolf attacks. :(

The escapees are about a mile from the final climb of about 15 miles and are only 3min15sec ahead of the peloton. Getting interesting! Exciting indeed! Hang on to you hats everyone! This may be good.

Phil C

The peloton is now about 15 miles from the finish line and is 3min5sec from the escapees.

Phil C

The peloton is now 2min55sec behind the escapees!

Phil C

The escapees have now reached the final climb and are about 14 miles from the finish line. The peloton is catching up.

Phil C

The peloton has gained. They are now 2min15sec behind the leaders.

Phil C

The peloton has caught some of the escapees. Lance is at the front of the peloton.

Phil C

More encouraging news is that besides leading the peloton Lance is surrounded by teammates at this time. Good news indeed after what happened last Friday.

Phil C
07-12-2005, 09:45 AM
The peloton now is about 12 miles from the finish. The few escapees left are about 2min ahead. None of the escapees are overall contenders. Go Lance Go!

Some of the sprinters are behind the peloton. Lance may get back the yellow jersey if this pace continues. We will see. We are getting closer to finishing today's stage.

Some of the contenders are starting to make their move in the peloton so we will see what happens. This is expected since we are getting near the finish.

What is a "peloton"?

Phil C
07-12-2005, 09:55 AM
Peloton that refers to the large group of riders that ride together during the race of each stage.

The peloton is gaining on the escapee who is just over a minute ahead of them. The contenders are all grouped together at the front including Lance. This should be an exciting finish.

Lance is pretty much got the Yellow Jersey if he keeps this pace up.

One of the contenders Vinokourov has been dropped by what is called the Armstrong group. Ullrich, Kloder and Basso are still there. We will see what happens.

At their current standings, if you look at the people in the Armstrong group... he has th yellow pretty much locked up.

There is now one lone escapee and he is only 55sec ahead of the Armstrong Group. He is probably going to be caught.

The Armstrong Group has caught the escapee. They are just ahead of Basso now. The four in the group are Lance, Rassussen, Mancebo and Valverde. They are bound to be getting near the end of the race.

Phil C

They are about 4 miles from the finish. Valverde has taken the lead but Lance is moving up to catch him. The other two are right behind. They are over 1min ahead of Ullrich.

Less than three miles away and Lance is setting a fast pace and leading even though he can't get ride of Valverde, Rasmussen and Mancedo. These three are not considered serious contenders but it would be nice for Lance to win this important stage. It looks like no matter what he will get the yellow jersey though. We will see. Go Lance Go!

Less than two mile left and the leaders are taking turns to set the pace. They are getting ready for the final sprint to decide the winner.

Phil C
07-12-2005, 10:25 AM
They are getting near the finish. Lance has attached and Valverde is with him. The winner of this stage looks like it will be one of these riders.

Phil C

Valverde wins just ahead of Armstrong who may have been content to have second place since he is now well ahead of his rivals. Way to go Lance!

Tomorrow will be another critical race too. Lance is in first place but Rasmussen is in second place just 38 seconds behind so he will have to be watched. In third place at 2min40sec behind is Basso who is considered a contender.
