I doubt Cooper will play much, if he's not 100%...if he is it could be worse than 14...;)

Will Cooper really be playing by then? The chatter in the spring was the he wouldn't play in predistrict.

whartontigerBDC

Well It doesn't matter if one Cooper plays: He has to face a whole TEAM! WHARTON TIGERS. Im sure they will be ready for revenge because the almighty Cuero only won by 1 pt. and they were ranked #1?

maroogreen
07-10-2005, 10:35 PM
I wouldn't bet on seeing Cooper until district. It would be disastrous for him to get hurt again in a pre-district game that doesn't count for much when there is plenty of depth at that position.

whartontigerBDC
07-10-2005, 10:39 PM
So do you know who this D. Williams is?

Gobbler Fan
07-10-2005, 10:43 PM
He played one game last year had about 300 yards against West Oso then had some personal issues and did not play the rest of the year . Cuero has plenty of Depth at RB like maroogreen stated an All Distric RB from last year is a Junior and will be there if needed .

whartontigerBDC
07-10-2005, 10:48 PM
The tigers will have a lot of returning players on O and D.
There offensive line will be stable and so will the receivers. Also they will have an excellent Back who just transferred.

maroogreen
07-10-2005, 10:51 PM
D. Williams is a very talented Cuero RB who had some personal problems last season. As FAN said, he smoked in the first game against West Oso. Williams was the starting RB his sophomore year until an injury early in the season (broken ankle, I think) sidelined him. Ironically, this is what allowed Cooper to step up and have a phenomenal sophomore season. Williams' older brother was a stud RB at Cuero in the 90s.

What about Pierre Fleurinor

gobbler84

Pierre is good don't get me wrong.....But does he have anyone to back him up on defense....Just to remind you it was the in the DB's territory that all the magic happened last year!

But wharton still has the D fense from last year but will have more experience this year. oh speaking of D what happened to yall's Secondary against Wharton?

Cuero moved up to # 1 the week following the LH vs Manor game, which would've been early the week of the Wharton/Cuero game.

Who's the Wharton QB this season, cuz it was the one from last season that gave the gobblers all kinds of trouble. I hope that this ballgame is a good one, but just not as close as last years if ya know what I mean!!!

This game will be played on the field, not on the internet, so everybody needs to just shut up! We have two scrimmages and El Campo to worry about before Cuero and Cuero has two scrimmages and two games before us. This thread needs to die!

You're absolutely right about where the game is played. And, yes, there are scrimmages and games beforehand, but from my experience, it's not as much fun to talk about upcoming games if the talk is one-sided. If there's no posters from there, it gets pretty dull.

Besides, it gives some of us "outsiders" some entertainment. ;)

Cuero/Wharton game?... Cuero received the number one ranking the week after the Sealy/Cuero game, which was two weeks after the Wharton/Cuero game... Cuero's first game the #1 AP team was when Sinton came to play us (they were #8)... I remember calling Gsquared after the Sealy/Cuero game (Cuero 20 Sealy 0) and saying "Man, I fear we will be the new number 1"...

But as far as the game is concerned, Wharton had the most talent out of EVERY team we played last year, it would be hard to put that type of talent on the field if you 'mixed' the most-athletic teams we faced in the playoffs...

However, what Wharton did last season was give our defense a taste of their style of offense, and though we saw their offense the year before, they NEVER gave us that look... so after that we were prepared for that type of stuff (wimberly ran the same deal, and we only allowed them 17 points)...

Basically, I think Wharton has a shot to beat Cuero, but I can't pick against the Gobblers, so I'll go with Cuero!!!

i dont know why this is even a question. cuero cant win this game. only the best RB's succeed behind a great offensive line. and they all went on their way this past season. so now you got a bunch of inexperienced juniors and seniors trying to work together. flourinor will dominate this game. wharton by 21+.

and no gobbla2001 this is not a joke from some idiot cuero fan. not everybody thinks cuero is greatest team to walk the face of this earth

I dunno why I'm telling you this, since you're from Cuero you already know...

Coop rushed for almost 1500 yards his sophmore year behind an inexperienced line... Cuero only returned 2-3 starters from the '02 5-6 team...

That's right, didn't you have a cast or something on your hand/arm?

I guess you're not gunna play this year then, huh?

If so, say it right here and keep posting as a Yoakum person... but if not, admit you're the dude who is supposed to be 'snagging a lot' of passes this coming season...

So if you truely want to play for Cuero next year, fess up...

But if you do not, don't fess up, thatta way your teammates that post here can know whether or not you're serious about them...

I’ve been blessed to have watched Wharton from time to time in the past several years and I just couldn’t get over at how many talented players they had. It didn’t matter if it was football, basketball, baseball, or especially track. That Wharton Co. town has some outstanding athletes that would make any 3A coach in the state drool. But for some reason they aren’t able to make a big splash when it comes to the playoffs. I just believe if Jesse Crow were still the coach at Wharton there would be many Region IV teams that would poop in their britches just to see them on their schedule. Just look how competitive Yoakum — with less than 500 students — is in a district that includes Cuero. Cuero has about 700 high school students and year after year Yoakum goes toe-to-toe with them. Last year Crow defeated a very good Rice team because he was able to utilize the talent he had and saw a weakness in the Rice secondary late in the game and used it for a win.
I believe that Cuero will be loaded in ’05 and that coach Reeves is a great coach and a prince of a person. However, he may get a bit conservative in the real close games, but his track record is such that you shouldn’t fault it.
I believe that Cuero will beat Wharton as it is, but if Crow were still in Wharton, Cuero would win.

My last sentence should have read that Cuero would not win. Sorry for not editing.

Scotty, you're crazy!!!

Crow wouldn't get any more out of these kids in Wharton than Roberts gets. Don't forget that Crow was there in Wharton. Roberts is the first coach in Whartons history to lead his kids to more than two playoff seasons in a row. Wharton was a patsy when Roberts went to Wharton; now they have made 4 playoffs in 5 years, and 3 straight. With 4 right around the corner. Crow didn't do that in Wharton. Why do you think that the talent is so good in Wharton now, when it was terrible 7 years ago. Those kids in Wharton are being developed in the off-season program, and they are putting up awesome numbers. They may have underacheived this past year; however, the two years before that they were beaten by an incredible BURNET team.

Have to say Cuero. They are just to good right now.

Something you need to remember is when Crow was in Wharton they were a small school competing in a really strong 4A district that included Bay City, El Campo, Brazosport, Lamar Consolidated and Columbia. Put them back into that district now and see how dominating they would be. For years Columbia was very unsuccessful in that 4A district but look at them now since they moved down to 3A. Classifications do make a lot of difference and I continue to believe that Crow would make Wharton better.

Gobbla2001
07-17-2005, 10:38 AM
West Columbia did pretty good in the district, beating Bay City in '02, losing 35-16 to El Campo and coming up short to Angleton

I think West Columbia would have done well in 24-4A this year had they been 4A still...

I mean it was just in 2000 where they went toe to toe with La Marque in the first round of the playoffs...

I think being in a district with a few weaker 3A teams may have helped them, but they would have been a force in 24-4A as well...

raider red 2000
07-17-2005, 10:52 AM
i believe that crowe and roberts are both good coaches.

it is true that wharton was a 4a several years back. I believe that they had a hard time beating many 3a schools then. I think that Wharton is doing a good job and will get better.

Will they beat Cuero???? who knows...they arnt supposed to Cuero is #1 in state right now.
