This makes me wonder how old our stadium is... The first 'Cuero'
game was played at Gobbler statdium in 1968... but that stadium was moved from Wharton Junior College... minus repairs via the inmates at the Stephenson Unit outside of Cuero, it's the same ole' stadium...

Thanks, 3afan! I forgot that was on there. I knew the House Park stadium was old, just didn't realize how old. It's the only one I've actually attended a game, but have seen some of the others.

21. Mustang Bowl Sweetwater 1939 66

Just a word of warning, this list will change. As I do my research I keep finding old stadiums. I started out with a list of the 10 oldest but I didn't want to drop some of my favorite stadiums off the list so I went the 20 oldest. As you can see, not wanting to drop the "Mustang Bowl" in Sweetwater I went to 21. Last night I came across another stadium in South Texas built in the 1930's. I have not put it on the list yet.

Out of about 980+ stadiums listed I have opening dates for about 200. Check out your stadium and see if I have the date. If I dont and you know the date please up date the listing. Remember, I only include stadiums that are in use for varsity regular season games.

Thanks

Awesome, TexasBob. I saw the stadium in Gorman about six weeks ago. I loved it. Was at Clarksville's stadium last weekend.

TexasBob, if you want to see more of my stadium and other related pics, go to PrplFrddy's Stadium Pics (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/prplfrddy/my_photos)

I don't know how old it is but Freer High School Stadium has been around a long time. Probably it was built in the 40s.

TexasBob, as long as you are using them for your site, go ahead. BTW, check out Finley Field in Menard. I think it was built in 1937. There is a pic of the sign.

Yes, I spotted that date. It will take a little time to process and get them published. You have a lot of good pictures.

must remember, one fix at a time. when the basketball team is consistently in the playoffs, i have no doubt the gym will be fixed... on the bright side you only have to play one game there.

Back to the topic of the thread, Texas Bob, it is slightly younger than the ones on your list, but I do believe you should include the Texas Bowl in Jacksonville, built by the WPA in 1940. It is still a good field.

By the way Purple Freddy, the Ore City Rebel Field you photograph is now the practice field. The new stadium is underconstruction, with the site schedule for use by late Sept-early Oct. It has been the poorest lit field in the area for a long time, so I for one will be happy to see it replaced.

You're right. You caught TOPS on one of the few times she's published something incorrectly.

I may be wrong... but I don't think Jasper's stadium is quite that old. Seems to me there is an engraved stone on the front of the stadium that states is was built by the CCC in the 1930's.

I think Franklin is playing at a new Hedrick Field. The old field had an oak tree that jutted out into the end zone (very cool), but they moved to a new field.
