In a twist to promote next year's world cup of baseball, the MLB has decided to select home run derby contestents by their country. The Texas Ranger's Mark Teixeira has been selected to represent the U.S.A. He currently is tied for the lead in the american league in home runs with 22. This will be Teixeira's first home run derby and all star game.

Teixeira will compete against Curacao's Andruw Jones (Braves), Venezuela's Bobby Abreu (Phillies), Panama's Carlos Lee (Brewers), Canada's Jason Bay (Pirates), Puerto Rico's Ivan Rodriguez (Tigers) and the Dominican Republic's David Ortiz (Red Sox).
