Week 1 of the season is the first week of HS football with a game at the end.

There is no zero week in the NFL, NCAA, NBA, NHL, UIL, Dave Cambells, MLB... etc.

No one talks about their awesome stats in "Week Zero" of the season.

What is it? (or maybe I should ask... is there a logical explanation or did someone come up with a goofy name and it stuck?)

I think I have asked this before...

Thanks,

UIL football teams can only play 10 regular season games in football... so it's always been week 1-10... since allowing teams to have an offweek, 'week 0' was born... I think it's a special name... '3....2....1..... 0'... I dunno...

Yeah. Always wondered why week 1 is called "week 0".

I know that we play Jasper in Week Zero and Nederland in Week 1. Week 1 is the first week in which ALL teams are officially in action. Many teams don't participate in Zero Week.

I think it's a lot like the old "this one goes to 11." :D

Sounds to me like you just may have weeks 1 to 11 in a regular season with teams catching an open date.

Let's think about it from a different angle...

In week Zero, a little less than half of the teams involved in HS Football are playing a game, so the majority are not... meaning when the majority enters the official week one, they will have played 'Zero' games...

But let's go ahead and say we have weeks 1 through 11... that would mean the majority of the teams don't even play during week 1 of the season...

Also, most of the UIL football teams are playing during the current week 10... I believe there may be a handfull of districts, IF EVEN a handful, that have two or more teams not playing during the current week 10 (I believe 32-3A may have a couple if not all, giving them an off week before the playoffs)...

So, if it were weeks 1 through 11, doesn't it seem kind of rediculous to call the current week 10 week 11 if MOST of the teams are playing their 10th game?

Having a 'Week 11' seems more rediculous to me if there are only 10 games played by each team up to that point...

'Week 0' makes more sense seeing how 'most' of the teams play '0' games that week...
