Alaniz and Kasparek tabbed Freshman All-Americans by Baseball America
DURHAM, N.C. -- University of Texas freshmen pitchers Adrian Alaniz and Kenn Kasparek were named Freshman All-Americans by Baseball America on Wednesday, June 29.
While Alaniz (Sinton, Texas), who was earlier named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, garnered first-team honors, Kasparek (Weimar, Texas) picked up second-team accolades. As a result of these distinctions, they are not only two of six Big 12 players included on the two 15-player freshman squads selected by Baseball America, but also become the 19th and 20th players in Texas Baseball history to earn Freshman All-America honors.
Alaniz, who tossed the 19th no-hitter in UT history on April 16, completed the 2005 campaign with an 8-3 overall record that included a pair of CWS wins, a 2.67 ERA and 94 strikeouts over 108 innings of work. Kasparek, meanwhile, registered a perfect 8-0 record to go along with a 2.10 ERA after making 12 starts, tossing 73 innings and holding opponents to a .214 batting average against.
