Taylor has not found a replacement for Tim Holt just yet.

I heard the reason Holt left the Ducks was because all of his coaching staff walked out on him because he had an affair with one of the other coaches wife. I don't know if this is true or not but that sucks for that guy. Rockdale has proven DC wrong the past 2 years when he has had us picked out of district lets make it 3!

Johnny Utah

Hope that is not true. The Ducks can play, or at least they could in the 90's!!!! Could be a gold mine for someone that comes in and gets them really going. Hope the Tigers get to keep the Bell for a while and prove DC wrong again!!!

How many times did Taylor beat Rockdale in the 90's? Just wondering because I don't think it was that many.

Johnny Utah

When I was around that area would trade off year to year, same with the Yoeman. We could not beat Giddings at all. The Ducks kicked us in bball every time, Rockdale was loaded from about 92-97!!! Still could not beat them.

Well I know it was 4 years in a row that Rockdale beat Taylor by 1 point. In 98 we won 29-14. 98 was the year rockdale was loaded. Numerous accomplishments that year. Rockdale had the same problem with Giddings though. Beat them for the first time in 16 years in 98, and tied them in the earlier 90's for the district championship, and Tied. Giddings got the nod by 1 penetration. Cameron. Not alot to say there. No matter how good we were they still won. Execpt for once I know of, but maybe 1 other.

I am not sure, but I would think proximity and the distance from the area to other 3a schools. Actually I have no clue. That is just a guess.

Including Rockdale there are 8 teams in district, I think a few years ago there were 6, but it went back up to 8. Could be 6 again when they do realignment.

Why does Marlin's district only have 5? Only the UIL knows why they do stupid stuff...

ILS1
06-30-2005, 02:31 PM
Well, the thing the UIL did 2 years ago was combine District 24-3A and District 18-3A. It all began when Elgin moved up to 4A and Troy dropped down to 2A. Here is where the travel comes into play. I guess they decided that Marlin and Lorena would be too far for, say La Grange. So they took both Marlin and Lorena out into another district and combined the rest into one district.

District 24-3A consisted of: La Grange,Elgin,Giddings,Manor,Hutto and Smithville.

District 18-3A consisted of: Marlin,Cameron Yoe,Rockdale,Caldwell,Troy and Lorena

That's my two cents worth!!!

Rockdale might have beaten Giddings in 95, instead of tying, if Ortega would not have gotten hurt. Probably cost them the Bi-district game against Burnet as well. All of those schools in that district have great rivalries. The Battle is neat for sure.

Used to work in the area for about 8 years, followed the Tigers, Thorndale, etc. Great football in that area, basketball is not too bad either!!! What is Ortega doing now? Caldwell used to have this running back/returner named Stone that was a LOAD!!!! My first year in that area Cameron pounded Rockdale something like 42-7, the Tigers were 1-9 that year.

Have seen it go both ways, two years in a row Rockdale pounded Cameron. Do you know who the coach of the Yoeman was at the time??? Todd Dodge!!!! I believe he is quite successful at Carroll, but could not beat the TIGERS!!!!! Best thing Cameron has done was to stick with their loyal coaches and hire from within.

sicem74
06-30-2005, 08:29 PM
its Yoemen and yes Todd Dodge was Cameron Yoe head coach for a lil while.

c-town_balla
06-30-2005, 09:26 PM
Dodge was one of our worst coaches becuase of his system. We had ran I and had great sucsess the year before, and then he came in and put in the spread and we had no body that could throw 10 yards so that killed that. also Charles please shut up

Cameron Yoeman were really salty running the wing-t and split defense!!! Charles might have spent too much time at Bob's!!! Great rivalry and always exciting to watch. You are correct, does not matter the records, or the year, the Battle of the Bell is unpredictable. When will Hutto go 4a??? Drove through there not too long ago, WOW!!!!!!

I have no idea. He did pretty well while he was at Rice. After that he tried out for the Cowboys and didnt make it. I have no idea what happened after that.

What ever Happened to Paul Johnson . He was the QB for Cameron in 1987 when they played Cuero in the Semi-Finals. He was a very good QB.

When did you play for the Tigers??? Any D1 potential coming out of the Rock the next couple of years??? Watched Ortega play at Rice, heck of an athlete!!! What happened to the Moore and Robertson brothers??? Yall had a huge Defensive end as well, signed with Baylor, did not hear how he did. I believe he was from Cameron, but ended up playing for Rockdale.

Ortega was a better defender than Qb, but yes he was a heck of an athelete. Not sure what happened to Moore, or the Robertson brothers. I played with Devaris and his brother Vernon. Played in 97 and 98. Those 2 years we were 19-5. The DE was Melvin Gardener. He went to Baylor, hurt his arm, redshirted. After that I am not sure if he stayed on with the team or not, but he didnt really do anything while he was there. D1 potential in rockdale....I think there is a strong chance that there may be 1 or 2 this year.

You coming to the Battle of the Bell?

07-03-2005, 09:43 AM
Yes Dodge was at Cameron and yes he lost and yes he has been successful at SLC. Reason being, Todd Dodge was MISTER EVERYTHING QB in his hayday and tried to do the same thing in Cameron. Problem was, the only QB he had to work with had no business being a QB. The real starter was an underclassman who had gotten hurt I believe and led Cameron to the quarterfinals the first year Dodge left. Anyways, Dodge had a line, linebackers and several good running backs. He just didn't use them properly. As for him getting fired, I don't know about fired but he was gone middle of the school year. Cameron doesn't put up with losing so if he didn't bow out gracefully, I"m sure there were some people in his ear advising him to do so or else have *FIRED* marked on his resume.

PJ played mionor league baseball for the Mariners then quit and went back to college. Brooks went to UH on a track and so did his sister Briana. Both graduated. The youngest Blade is going to be a senior this next season. Projected starting TE next season instead of QB.

Yeah he was on JV, but the entire JV was loaded that year too. Blew everyone out of the water. I dont think there was a guy that couldnt dunk. I was a freshmen they year Damion was a Jr. Not sure about Sulak in Missouri, but I read he might get some P.T. this year. Apparently he had a big offseason. I think Angela White still teaches. I think she is a counselor. I sure do miss her. She was one of my favorites.
