Utah selected UT signee C.J. Miles as the 34th overall pick in the second round. Mr. Miles will have to decided if he wants to go to UT or turn pro even though second rounders aren't guaranteed big money. I hope he comes to college of course because at least you can have a good opportunity to get an education. If you bust in the pros it could be bad.

With their first round pick the Spurs picked Ian Mahinmi of France. The Spurs spokeman has said he is mainly for use in the future. He is a big person but they want him to keep playing in Europe for a few years to get experience. The Spurs have their players signed to long term contracts so they are being smart in drafting for the future.

The thing about this year's draft even though there were a lot of outstanding players there were not any super stars (that we know of) as of today as pointed out by the sports comentators on tv last night. In high school there were no Lebron James or Kobe Bryant so the smart thing would have been for them to avoid the draft and do like Carmelo Anthony did - play a year in colllege and prove your worth and then enter the draft as a sure shot high draft pick. The shame of it is some of those players won't get paid the big bucks unless they prove they can make it in the NBA plus they have lost all chances of getting a college education with a college scholarship. The NBA has remedied it now to not draft kids until they are 19 but it is too late for this years' kids.

Mr. Miles' father has said that since the NBA didn't draft his son in the first round (and he said they were very disappointed) that he will honor his committment to Texas. Smart thing in not hiring an agent yet on their part. Utah may have wasted a draft pick on him which is strange because they had said that if he wasn't drafted in the first round he would not be going to the NBA yet.

the thing with CJ Miles is that he isnt a wasted pick. Rather than go to the league right now, he can refine his skills at UT, then in 2006, 2007, the Jazz get a lottery pick with the 35 pick in 2005. It makes perfect sense, but the rights to CJ Miles are property of the Utah Jazz right now...
also, check out the Draft grades and round up thread :)
